No one would care if the team was winning in his absence next year.

nobody would care period. We all love Fitz. But his stats speak for themself. That’s the way of the league. Aging stars leave all the time and there isn’t some huge void left and franchises move on. The whole losing Fitz thing is completely overblown. Yet I’m sure that someone in about 5 minutes will follow right behind and say he’s still worth every red cent of 11 million per lol.... yes moving forward as well.

It would not be catastrophic for him to play for another franchise in his waning years. Nobody looks at Jerry Rice and says he's a Raider and nobody looks at Emmitt Smith as a Cardinal... though I do have a Emmitt Smith Cardinal jersey to tick off Cowboy fans down here in Texas :)

I think a lot of fans would care.

Maybe I'm wrong here. I think the casual fan would care a lot more than most of us that post on this board.

if we were WINNING? They'd care that much that Larry wasn't on the team? I think the casual fan would just be happy they're winning and wouldn't have the emotional pull a lot of die-hards have.

Maybe. Winning cures a lot but I'm not sure.

Fake caring doesn’t count :)

I personally want him to in the following order

1) Take a massive pay cut
2) Retire
3) Begrudgingly re-sign him to a deal he doesn't deserve
4) Sign for a new team.

They can make whatever cap space they want. Cutting Pugh saves 7.25 million. Extending Jones / Structuring can save 10k. Alford is 7.5 million.

That doubles the cap space in 3 easy moves
I can get to 47 AND keep Pugh...TOP THAT!

We all have to remember that Chandler Jones will not be a 20 mil cap hit next year. 10 at most and 5 mil is dead space at the least. He will want an extension and we will want to give him one. Both sides are motivated.

Hard to imagine that if Larry doesn't have a massive end of season and playoffs (!!!) he'd come back. Zero TDs into mid-December should be embarrassing to him. 63rd in DYAR.

I agree but in his entire career, Golden has never had a cap hit over 5 mil. I don't see that changing in an off-season where the cap decreases and he likely has under 8 sacks as an OLB.

Devon Kennard is on the books for an $8 million cap number next year and in 2022. I'd much rather have Golden. Kennard is replacement level.

To be fair to Golden, he's missed both his chances at big paydays. He was coming off a knee injury when he first went into free agency, then he had 10 sacks last season but got caught in a scheme change (or something?). Stuck on a bad team, maybe? I always thought it was weird he was hanging out so long.

Im surprised Keim, who loves bargains, didnt re sign Golden when he hit free agency here and had to settle for a 1 year deal. I guess the Wilks scheme didnt need that skill set.

I think Jurecki said during free agency this past offseason that Golden's asking price was very high -- and never really came down until NYG effectively reclaimed him very, very late in a free agency with a collective bargaining quirk im not familar with -- i think he got at 1 year, $8.5mm deal or something.

actually 5 does sound more right for Golden.

can you use the Franchise and Transition tags in the same year? If so, I wouldn’t be crushed if we transitioned Peterson and franchises Reddick or Vice versa.

next year SHOULD be the ALL IN third year to make a big run at the whole thing.
I agree, transition tag Reddick and franchise peterson. Jones still hasn't year left. Push the chips to the middle of the table lol

With the cap space they have in 2022 they can get creative and spend as much as they want this year on any player they want. It's going to cost some upfront money but it can be done.

Agreed I would love to be out of Hicks and Kennard stock.

That Phillips contract is brutal

alford, phillips, hicks, Pugh, kennard... these have been our big money FAs and all of them have either been injured, sucked or barely average at best.

Keim has been aces with trades, but pretty pathetic at FA.

Jury is still out on the Phillips signing, remember Corey Peters first year was a wash too due to a blown achilles. Now we miss the hell out of him

Pugh has had a solid last couple of years and Hicks is a very serviceable LB. Kennard is a ghost i never see him and Alford i just feel bad for.

I can stomach Hicks one more year as I feel his limitations are easier hid with Simmons on the field next to him. Might be a nice year to grab an ILB in rounds 2 or 3.

Dylan Moses - Alabama
Cam McGrone - Michigan
Nick Bolton - Missouri
Chazz Surratt - North Carolina
Baron Browning - Ohio St
Monty Rice - Georgia

all worth a look in those rounds. McGrone and Bolton are my favorites so far.

I don't hate the Pugh contract TBH. 16th highest avg dollars per year of every OG is fairly accurate IMO. And in reality, you could probably rework his deal to drop his hit by about 5 mil just by giving him more guaranteed money.
