Rebuilding Time

I'll be the first to jump off the bridge. The suns have once again managed to lose to the Spurs. The Suns have amare getting 25 points in the first half and a grand total of 0 in the 3rd. that's exactly why this team will not win. They play stupid basketball. they gave up easy looks tonight seemingly every trip down the floor. They also couldn't manage to hit any shots, mainly Diaw who missed post up shots over Tony Parker.

So now we are burdened with shaq's contract. Nash is probably done after this year. Hill is certainly on his way out. Bell is not getting any younger. We also have a guy who can not be moved (diaw) to go with an incredibly inconsistent barbosa. Our rookies get no time and they will not develop. we essentially have amare and only amare to go with.

This team needs to simply rebuild now. There is no way we can do anything next year, that's for sure. We have a 6% chance of winning the series now. Goodbye fairweather fans! it's a good thing i'm also a huge cavs fan, they seem to be doing very well to this point. And when lebron gets 25 in the first half, they keep letting him score in the 2nd half! go figure!

We could have traded Marion for draft picks and young players and rebuilt around them and Stoudemire, but Kerr gambled it all on this season and possibly next.

Do you think our older, non-improved, capped out team is going to top the Lakers, Spurs, or New Orleans next year? I can't see it, so I would recommend drastic rebuilding, however I know there is too much invested to do that so we will likely see a similar roster with Dantoni back next season

if the suns don't get past the spurs (and they won't) there is no way this team comes back intact. There are always moves to be made in basketball, look at the celtics/lakers, it can happen, but there is an issue of loyalty dantoni is very loyal to boris and leandro and bell, he will fight for them to the death, so kerr will need to fire dantoni and his brother first.

Shaq and Nash will be back next year to make one final push. They will just look to add better players. I'd already resigned myself to the fact that the Hornets and Celtics were the best teams this year anyway. I just don't want to lose to the Spurs again.

Okay, there's no doubt that the draft trade with Chicago several years ago was a disaster, but it was not a penny saving move. They were trying to clear that room to use on free agency, and they did.

Okay, there's no doubt that the draft trade with Chicago several years ago was a disaster, but it was not a penny saving move. They were trying to clear that room to use on free agency, and they did.

I'm also not so sure they could have traded Shawn Marion for draft picks and young players. I just don't buy it.

I see one more run for this team next year. They'll try to do it with Shaquille O'Neal for an entire season.

Bolded is where you completely went off the deep end. i'm sorry, but that's just pretty much wrong and a half.

but i will say that this team CANNOT rebuild after this season. they are in absolutely no position to do so. picks? NO.....youth? Amare/Barbosa/Diaw and a couple of rooks who havent played. that is NOT a core at all. and they have no tradable assets that will land players in the draft.

i will also say that the next couple of years will be tough. the suns will be eating Shaq's contract, along with Diaw and Nash. and once Shaq and Nash are gone, then we will start the build mode.

oh, and i'll also be the first to say that if that happens....then Amare will opt out in 09/10 when Nash and Shaq are gone. we have NO PIECES to build with, and unless amare wants to spend his prime waiting (ala Garnett), then he'll FA his way out.

our franchise is going to find out the hard way that its impossible to build a competitive team year in and year out without drafting. and even more impossible to keep a franchise player happy without bringing in talent.

we are going to be BAD in a couple of years. as BAD as Minny is and has been for the past couple of years. the ONLY ONLY ONLY thing that we can do to combat this is pray to god that our atlanta pick lands us an All-Star calibur player.

They shouldn't, D'Antoni's system is simply not as effective when you run out a traditional lineup and tempo.

Friday night we can watch the Spurs take our heart with a likely gut-punching loss, Saturday morning we can watch the Cardinals inevitably either take someone none of us have ever heard of or trade down, while losing picks in the process and then on Sunday, we can watch the Spurs walk off our court triumphantly, ending our season for the third time in four years.

i agree with everything you have stated here. that's what i was trying to say. it's like it's time for us to rebuild, but there's no way for us to do it. we're basically in the same situation as miami with some better players. maybe nash isn't done next year but think of this: he will only get worse on defense, he will only get slower, he will only turn the ball over more. he's on the downswing, no questions asked.

With all due respect Andrew,you've missed out on the experiences,highs and lows and the epic journey that some fans had endured for decades.
You're a SUNS fan...thats awesome but IMO you can't speak on this without the proper perspective.This is about more than just giving up on a series.

I think I need to go to a Dodgers or Angels game with you and your bro and in depth explain the nuances and subleties that make the game of baseball great. It might be better for your mental health over the next decade to vault baseball to the top of your favorite sports list.

I too could see one more run surely with a catchy marketing phrase just like every year and maybe even a new uniform, but that would be to sqeeuze every last cent out of blind hopeful fans.

I could easily see a total meltdown/regression by mid year and then the suns would need to sell short again, eitherway it's putting off the inevidable, to really think this team is top 4 in the West is kidding yourself, as it stands now they have been going backwards since 06 and the nonesense that we hear from the suns that nash is going to be elite for 5 plus years is almost criminal on their part.

Truthfully, I'm not THAT far away. I was a rabid Snakes fan during the first 6 years, even spent over 1500 bucks to attend every World Series game. So I was there for our first moment of franchise glory.

Then, last year, I was in Chi-town during the Cubs series and was loud and proud at the bars in enemy territory and then somehow my best friend managed to get us three of the D-Backs partial owner's seats for Game 3 in Wrigley. I was there for the first and I was there for the beginning of the second. I have every confidence that team will bring us titles in the future.
