You don't fire a GM for drafting slightly above league average.
True (& I'm not a believer in a hair-trigger when it comes to firing). But..
Someone has to be held accountable for shredding a pretty acceptable roster. If that someone turrns out to be Wilks or others on his staff, the question must be asked: "Who hired Wilks?" Assuming it was SK, Michael B has to wonder whether he can trust Steve to make other staffing decisions.
(Note - I have no clue about which decisions are unilateral - & 100% the province of Keim, the HC or possibly Michael B. Or whether every big decision is decided " by committee"; So a lot of what I have to say is based on blind-assumption or guesswork).
Following the Coach Parcells dictum that "a team is what its record says it is", it's hard not to assume that "something ain't working here" and changes in either policy, personnel (or both) need to be made - earlier/not later.
Determining the right course of action looking forward won't be easy (We often forget that other NFL teams, to various degrees, have rosters, coaching and management chock full of talent, and we'll have out-compete those people if we're going to get anywhere).
Finally, there have been public comments by Coach Wilks that suggest our problems are mostly due to transition issues & the best course of action might. be to "stay the course" with what we have. It's hard for me to accept this because (to mangle a metaphor): "if it's broke, fix it."
What the Cards wil do is hard to say: I think the odds of sweeping changes vs. doing little if anything drastic is 50-50.
