Never heard of players joining a 24-win team for a chance at a championship. Yes, they look good on paper, but they haven't played a single game together yet. And between Pierce, Allen and Garnett, there isn't a whole lot of playoff experience. The East is still weak, so they may have the opportunity to go deep into the playoffs, but they haven't done anything yet. All this potential championship talk is a bit premature if you ask me. You don't go from 24 wins to NBA championship.

Probably not in one season, but there are plenty of examples of a franchise turning it around in two or three (Miami being the most recent).

The Celtics are in the same boat as the Suns in 2005--need players desperately, don't have enough money to spend.

What they need is to find a good home for their MLE.

From RealGM:

With Reggie Miller considering an offer to come out of retirement to play with the Boston Celtics , other potential contending teams are also throwing their hat into the ring, according to the Dallas Morning News.

"The call from Danny (Ainge) came completely out of the blue," Miller said. "All I'm doing is thinking about it. I'm working out, and I want to see how my body feels. Obviously, Boston hit the lottery with the KG [Kevin Garnett] trade, but they've been in the bottom half of the league the last couple of years."

Miller said one other team has contacted him since the news of the Celtics' interest became public. He wouldn't say what team but the hints he gave suggest it is Phoenix.

Phoenix: Where aging stars come to die. (And maybe win a championship)

That said, as much as I dislike Reggie Miller, he would be as good a fit on this team as any shooter could be. Defense is non-existant, but man, he would get a lot of 3-point attempts.

So let me get this straight:

Suns got Grant Hill

Suns got Eric Pike

Suns want PJ Brown?

Suns want Reggie?

Hmm.....sure Sarver doesn't want to bring back Tom Chambers and Oliver Miller while you're at it?

I'll never understand the hate shown towards Pike.

#1: He's cheap.

#2: In the minutes he did have last season, he was effective--probably better than Marcus Banks on average--but he had very, very few minutes.

#3: His being on the team takes nothing away from the team as a whole. It's not like we sold that 1st rounder this year because Pike took the roster spot...

We are looking at older players, but Pike doesn't deserve any of the criticism you keep throwing his way.

I agree that Pike doesn't deserve criticism but D'Antoni sure does for wasting a roster spot on him instead of drafting someone last year - for about the same cost.

Pike is not getting criticism so what's all this "criticism you keep throwing his way" talk? Doesn't make any sense. Are you trying to get personal again, Chaplin?

Your sentence seems to allude that all 150 posts I have made are Pike criticisms - when in fact this is the only Pike post ever made....and it's not even criticism! At least get that part straight.

There is a difference between criticism and saying someone is old.

Instead of having Pike use up the 1 million cash, Suns could have used that money and probablly less - and that roster spot for a rookie they can develop into a rotation player years down the line......just as the guy above states.

Stop attempting to come up with an argument against me because you have some inner grudge. Just relax...

I watched Brad Cesmat on "The Sports Show" Channel 3 TV in Phoenix a few minutes ago. He suggested that Phoenix might be the other team of interest or choice apparently derived from the Dallas Morning News article. Also Cesmat or someone tried to contact Miller's camp for confirmation but were unable to get any information. Cesmat is fairly low key so I'm surprised he mentioned it. They also showed Marion and LB working with youngsters in Brazil (I believe) about about basketball.

Nothing new but it does add a little smoke.

Maybe if you understood what people said, you wouldn't have this problem. You aren't the only one that mocks the Pike signing over and over--and for reasons that frankly don't support your argument. Pike is much more likely to get minutes than an undrafted rookie (who you think would be better served paid Pike's salary). I disagree with you. Take it personal if you want.

Given the lack of depth on the Suns front line, he certainly could help today. Not sure in the long run whether he defends or runs the floor well enough.

some say he doesn't rebound well

He is a career 0.201 per minute rebounder which is not that good (I usually put 0.25 as a baseline for a decent rebounder). He is a quality scorer with a career 16.1 ppg and 46.9% shooting; but his rebounding has always been more what you'd expect from an SF which is what he used to play.

You're already wasting money and roster space on yet another extremely old pure shooting veteran named Eric Piatkowski.

Why spend money on Reggie and make the team even older than it already is?

Utilize Eric Pike for once if you want shooters.

Don't need Reggie. What you need is to be willing to spend a lot of money to add to your depth and bigs issue by signing PJ or Skinner alongside a wing like Posey or Pietrus.

off topic,

can juwan howard helps the suns?

i read somewhere that he wants out of minny

Yes I too read he wants out. Apparently the Wolves have about 1,890 people under contract and 1,000 of them are power forwards like Juwan Howard.

I think he'd be fantastic off the Suns bench. A big body that can shoot the ball. What else you want? Michael Jordan?

Bring him on!!!
