Regular Refs Are Back

Being reported that a deal is at hand and working on getting refs to work this weekends games..

As @mortreport is reporting, an agreement between NFL and NFLRA is at hand and both sides will work to have officials working this weekend.

Funny because they've been consistently saying it would take 10 days for them to be game ready but one horrible call in a MNF debacle and they can sign a deal on Wed and work Sunday?

Pretty clear the NFL realizes their cred was damaged in the MNF game.

I don't trust Mort. He has a record trying to scoop a story by going with shaky sources instead of validating what he is hearing. Or, he'll try to steal someone else's scoop and repackage it as his own. I think he is a dirty reporter and I don't respect his breaking news.

It's pretty much official: reports saying deal has already been agreed to, only sticking point is when they start, whether it's this Sunday or the following week.

Still too early to call though IMO, everyone's going off Mort's reporting looks like.

Saints 0-3, Pats 1-2 and Green Bay 1-2 ? I wouldn't call it impossible. I mean those records right there are bad for business, and the "integrity of the NFL"

Our game vs Miami just got that much more difficult IMO. Back to "15 yard penalty for being a Cardinal".

I noticed they haven't been calling holding on Calais Campbell either so atleast they were consistent

Yep it was the right call but I highly doubt regular refs make that call againts NE.

I think regular officials are like officials in the NBA and NHL--they step away from the table in crunch time. I don't think it has anything to do with "because it's New England" or "Because it's Rob Gronkowski", I think that they'll allow a little more physical play at the end of games to keep themselves out of the conversation.

I just don't think you can make the "home teams get all the calls" argument and then discount what happened to the Cards on the road. Lombardi on the B.S. report basically said that what's frustrating about the replacement officials is that there's no consistency in their calls within the game. NFL teams have dossiers on each officiating crew so they know what to expect. I don't think that is the problem with the replacements (they don't know the rules, they can be pushed around, they don't want to assert authority), but I think it's a problem with the course of the game.

Fans should think carefully about saying that officials shouldn't make decisions that can be overturned by replay. We saw too much of that when the replacements were in, and it doesn't lead to quality football.
