This is getting ridiculous and can cost teams games and injuries. This is the elephant in the room that no one is really talking about resolving. The NFL needs to reach agreement before the season starts.

Yup. It was horrible. Seemed at one point you couldn't run a play without a flag.

Feel bad for Fleming. He had a beautiful solid shoulder hit but got called for helmet-to-helmet 15 yards and his helmet on replay did not touch the WR.

Can anyone that knows give a Cliff notes version of the dispute? From tidbits I have read, deal will be done by week 3, but if it is close to being done, why not do it now?

On the TV broadcast they were saying it looks like the replacement refs were going to still be reffing at the start of the season.

Not good.

edit: just noticed the above about week 3. Hopefully that means they can get it done sooner.

The NFL is being ridiculous here as if there is not enough dough to pay the 35 to 45 freaking refs. This goes to the integrity of the game and will severely damage the on field product.

If the players union threatened to support the referees by refusing to play, this would be fixed in a day. I'm surprised the players are not more vocal on this.

worst part about the whole thing is that this is pre season for the officials too...they need tuning up before the season just like the players do. if a deal is done by week three, then it will be mid season before we have decent officiating.

exactly. The real refs need some time to get back into the flow as well. They also won't be watching teams amp it up slowly over preseason but will be jumping into a full blast NFL game.

It's funny though, RG is a lawyer and so are many of the refs. Kinda weird when I think about it.

Every pre-season game I've watched on the NFL Network has been pretty bad too. Seriously, they need to get this done.

I like the new refs. Their calls stink for everybody instead of the regular refs just making calls against the Cardinals.;)

Hell the regular officials did the same thing every Cardinal Game? A lil more wrongness and broadcasters blowing off their pie hole about it, I hate regular official not having an outside network performing an official review!

THE NFL has not policed itself, And the old boys club seems broken and that is a good thing! Some officials and the NFL as a whole favor certain teams, players and coaches- have long term relationships and flat out favor them- and it aint the Cardinals!

Screw em - They got nothing I want- the new officials are fine with me - they'll get better every game- I see more scruntiny not more bad calls. Yea Fleming got a bad call - but really what's new?

The only new thing I see is the game being called bad against everybody equally- for the first time ever.

Same thing I was going to say.

Their heads are swimming too much to focus on screwing us.

Why dont they go get NCAA Refs?

As far as I know, these refs are from Amateur hour FB leagues.

In the echelon of FB refs

1.NFL
2.NCAA
3.CFL
4.everyone else

I think NCAA Refs would be outstanding. Go get em.

They are NCAA refs...division 2 I believe. The problem is the the highest level of college refs can't go to the NFL because they will lose their jobs they have now & if I'm not mistaken can't because of contracts. The NFL at this point has no other choice.

D2.

Im talking D1. Bama vs LSU refs are just as important, if not moreso, than most NFL game refs.

But if these current NFL refs want to continue to hold their breath, than we should bring in the D1 refs permanently. Nice little pay raise and job security so it wouldnt matter if they left the NCAA.

Job security is non existant if the NFL strikes deal with NFLRA then they dont have college job or nfl job anymore.

The refs have a union just like the players, they can't all be fired & replaced.

I have to agree with TheSmel. I watched one game that had a phantom face mask and the replay showed the tackler had the QB by the shoulder pad. Fun Stuff! At least now the bad calls are even out. One thing is there seems to be no favoritism. Just lots of bad calls.

Can too. Union busting. Test to see how committed their members are once they see their paycheck going away. All you need is 1 guy to cross the line, and more will follow.

And theoretically they could fire all players and replace them. They made a movie about that starring Keanu Reeves.

In that awful movie the players were on strike. In the NFL the refs are locked out, there is no "crossing the line". They'd gladly be there right now if the league wasnt so penny pinching and pig headed.

I don't know what anybody was expecting-----The college guys are already locked up for the year, and these replacement guys could not even displace the college guys. Once again the league has painted itself into a corner leaving embarrassment as the chief feature of its public face.
