I am a fan of this signing. He has his issues, but so does pretty much everyone who is still available.

Building up depth on the d-line is critical. Especially when Watt is the centerpiece of that line. Guys like Fotu, Dogbe and Lawerence are fine, but they shouldn't be significant pieces of the rotation.

One of the reasons that paying Budda all this money was insane was that Vance doesn't seem to think you need dynamic defensive backs and when we were cooking last season, Budda and Thompson were playing back, and he wasn't making plays.

When we got desperate late in the season and Simmons was regressing, we started bringing Budda down into the box as a pass rush threat and in run support, and the pass defense came unglued.

It's worth considering that the Cards announced extensions for Keim, Kingsbury, and a bunch of the offensive staff, but it's been *crickets* about Vance and his staff. Would not be at all surprised if we look outside the organization. Seems like he and Keim have never seen eye to eye on personnel or system.

When I said Kingsley Keke was just a body a few people chimed in he was a good pass rusher. They cited his 4 sacks in 2020. Most talent evaluators disregard 2020 due to Covid absences. Teams were often not playing all first string players. In Keke’s case he had 2 sacks in 2 games and none in the other 14. He had only 12 pressures that year. In 2021 (12 games)he dropped to 2.5 sacks, only 7 pressures & 4 QB hits . He had 1 TFL. Again all the sacks & the TFL happened in only 2 games. These are not indicators of a successful rusher. By way of contrast, Jordan Phillips (9 games) had 3 sacks, 8 pressures, 3 TFLs & 4 QB hits. The Cards dumped Phillips, incurring dead money, because of inadequate performance.
