How do you know he wasn’t going to play this year? Is it because of how solid and healthy our starting tackles are?

Lol... we need room for incentives, rookies and extensions? With 100 million dollars next year in cap room that money can be pushed into?

They do nothing at CB and WR for the 2nd year in a row which you’ve defended and now you’re grasping at straws to defend the team gutting another position to make it go from a relative weakness to likely disaster.

Man, this is an ugly offseason.

Our starting RT is making 2.5 million dollars. You get what you pay for.

I liked the wr room last year, it had potential. This year the cupboard is bare.

I'm not grasping at straws, they just clearly planned to move on from veldheer and if that's the plan, a trade is better than a cut.

That ship already sailed... last offseason when they decided not to bring back CC/Jefferson... and still did nothing at corner except cut Our starter’s salary.
They were trying to get McClain in to play CB. He'd be an upgrade there.

Veldheer was pretty much toast.

Everyone keeps bringing up Andre Smith in this convo. The biggest reason to keep Veldheer was that we have a left tackle who makes Sam Bradford look like Farve or Cal Ripken.

Veldheer was the equivalent of a human traffic cone at RT for most of last season. I understand most people still don't trust DJ to survive season so argument to keep Veldheer in that case makes more logic. I don' know Smith but it will not take much to outplay Veldheer at RT from what I've seen

Some people said he was an injury prone old dude, some complain when we let guys get old and get nothing for them, and some guy complain that we traded away a key component to our offense. I guess no matter what some people are going to complain. I for one don't like it, I thought he was good insurance for a LT if needed, but lets just hope they put that freed up cap space to good use, or draft the next Tom Brady in the sixth.

This move tells me McGlinchey is our first round pick. Because if we do anything but that it would be such a stupid move Keim would have to be brain dead or working for the enemy. This is upsetting to think we are not going to draft a quarterback this year and we are putting all our eggs into Bradford staying healthy for the next several years.

We all know that Humphries will be hurt by mid season and then Bradford won’t have any protection so he will get hurt then we will watch Glennon start for at least 8 games. I’ll make my 5-11 prediction now.

Humphries is not a good left tackle.Veldheer was a decent LT.Why in the hell BA ever switched those 2 is beyond me.I think Snakester is partially right.Looks like RD 1 will BPA at either OT,CB,DL.I think QB is pushed back to RD 2-3.

Veldheer or Iupati were toast anyways. I wish we could have acquired a 4th, but now we at least have a pick in every round, and 8 picks overall.

This team needs those picks. Hell, maybe some of them can be used to move up in the 2nd and grab a sliding Lamar Jackson or something.

add Veldheer to the list of players that inexplicably got dramatically worse for no apparent reason

2015 he was one of the better LTs in the league. 2016 his play declined significantly. 2017 at RT was just not good.

What the hell are we creating this cap space for? Who is there to possibly throw money at? That ship has sailed, thanks to Keim's "aggressive" FA approach. Not that I don't appreciate picking up a 6th for a guy we were going to cut anyway, but why cut an important OL when our OL lacks depth and health, all for cap space which we probably won't use up anyway? This one's a head scratcher.

Maybe to sign David Johnson to a long term contract

2019 for free agents because we’re about to unload draft pick after draft pick in the upcoming draft for a QB. :moon:

Cap space rolls over now, not that I think that's what our goal is.

But with the space, we could go for Suh, Breeland, or even still make an offer to Jordan Matthews. DRC is a one-year CB option too, not that I see that coming.

EVERYONE knew we would get rid of veldheer or iupati. So, people get snarky when we actually at least get a pick in return?

Or maybe people didn’t understand cutting him for no reason, especially since we’re not up scraping against the cap, our starting line is average at best and a MASH unit more likely AND there’s no one in FA to spend money on at this point anyway.

same negativity same people

Same people who people like you claimed were negative last offseason... and sadly, ended up being right.

Being realistic isn’t being negative. It’s being realistic.

This I can agree with.

Nothing really about 8-8 to be negative about. Backups galore yet still finished middle of the pack. 3-13 is negative
