Can he play OT?

If not, pass.

Seriously. The Cards should do everything in their power to try and fix this oline. Try unorthadox methods such as getting him and then fattening him up! Put him on the oline! From time to time the cardinals can bring him in as an eligible receiver or whatever. As long as he can block better than the guys we have now, that's all we need.

Bring him in, check him out, and change his number to 60-79 range

Hell, Calais Campbell could do a better job than Batiste. Have some plays with Dockett and Campbell in on the line, go old school small town Texas with the players...they do it with CBs and Wrs on a few plays :)

We gave another washed up TE a shot, why not Shockey? Bring him in.

I wouldn't call Shockey an A+ blocker unless he is already out there being covered by some LB or secondary dude, when he blocks for a fellow receiver after they make their catch. But if he is old and crusty, getting released, and is a better blocker than we have on most of our O-line...he could help stop the edge rush while remaining a semi threat for the pas. And as I mentioned, his downfield blocking is what I like. He can help extend plays like the quick slants and such. Pricetag is everything in this land of milk and honey, plus (pardon my french here) he kind of looks like one of those whiteboys that shrivleled up both physically, and in their careers... like post P.E.D. style. I don't know if that's the case as I've never heard anything like that about him but he has dropped off rather quickly right?

SOMEONE on a football podcast I listen to (could be Peter King, could be a Bill Simmons guest, could be someone else) was saying that increasingly colleges and NFL teams are going to have to recruit/draft defensive linemen and convert them to the other side.

It's really remarkable how steeply the talent on the offensive line has declined not only in the NFL, but in college football.

Not really.

Highschool was the telling sign.

If a kid is really tall ? They seem to go play basketball more times then most. If they are really "big" and tall, then the question more times then not is, "is football more fun than video games?"

Offensive line is a non-glamour position, and the training required for a large kid is tough, really tough. No glory, no recognition, a lot of hard work, or playing video games.

The NFL will have to adapt. The think may be a good offensive linemen doesn't "come of age" until 4 or 5 years in the league.

Hopefully there will be some though about increasing roster size. So, a guy like Nate Potter can by on your roster for 2 or 3 years to learn the trade.

This is one of the things that Michael Lewis wrote about in The Blind Side, before that became a chick flick. If you're in high school and you're 6'3" and 240 lbs, you're probably not fast enough to play basketball, but you might be quick enough to be an offensive lineman. I just think that the attention has turned so much toward defensive ends and tackles that a lot of coaches are putting their bigger athletes there. You can scheme pass protection; you can't scheme an interior rush.

My little brother was 6'3", in the 230s in high school. He played OT his freshman year through junior year. Then he decided that it was more fun getting laid than playing OL, and lost 25 lbs the summer before his senior year and had to be converted to TE.

Shockey has taken a lot of heat over the 'bounty gate' . I think he'd be worth a look as he's a lot more healthy than Heap....+ his contract would be week to week.

He is a damn good blocker and can run routes if needed (presuming his legs are still strong).

Well. It is fun. Doesn't pay as well. :)

Well, luckily he's smart and popular (Sr. Class Prez, Homecoming King). He could've played ball at a D2 school as a TE (just at that size he had good quickness--played Varsity soccer and track as well as 2 years football), but he earned tuition waivers and ended up having an amazing time at NAU for four years.

I don't know how big a hippie you can be--even at NAU--when you're the president of a fraternity. My other brother is more and more a hippie every day. Still at NAU, grew his hair down below his shoulders, and paints apartment interiors when he's not in class.

Poor guy probably didn't even get any of that awesome hippie tail with that kind of stigma. :p Hippie tang is good too.

I don't think my baby bro had any problem whatsoever in catching tail of any kind during his time up north.
