Cardinals re-signed WR Jaron Brown, S Tony Jefferson and S D.J. Swearinger to one-year contracts.

Not really any big news, but it is always nice to see that it is official.

Three quality depth guys, IMHO.

So no offers for Jaron Brown? You'd think a WR starved team like the Rams would be willing to throw $2 mil his way. Especially after they just cleared all that cap space. Would he not be their starting #2 receiver day one?

Glad to see them all back. CFL, it is crazy no one wanted Brown.

Even though it was expected I actually think this is a big deal. We really needed these three guys and it gives us way more draft flexibility.

Except two of them are likely starters, IMO. I don't think it's a big deal, but whatever.

Credit Steve Keim for guessing right on all three, especially Jefferson, whom Keim could have spent another 800K on to ensure a 2nd round tender. I am surprised Jefferson didn't get an offer sheet from another team. I know the Raiders had some interest. But, the good news is that there are some very intriguing safety prospects in this draft, so teams were willing to wait.

They are all backups. That doesnt mean they won't see the field but I wouldn't call them starters. Maybe Jefferson starts if Mathieu isn't ready at the beginning of the season for some reason.

Jefferson is the starting SS. He was 2nd on the team in tackles last year. It's Swearinger who may start at FS if Honey Badger isn't ready.

If we start 5 DBs (and we definitely will, if Matthieu is healthy), than Jefferson is doubtless one of them, and Swearinger could well be another.

The fiction that Tyrann Matheiu is a safety needs to end. He lines up almost exclusively within 5 yards of the LOS.

I think Branch becomes the other starting safety opposite of Mathieu. Jefferson will see playing time when the do go with 3 safeties. Swearinger will see some limited time as well. Obviously our defense will be slightly different from last years based on the roster make up this year.

Mathieu is a nickel back for a lack of a better title for his hybrid position. Branch will be the free safety and Swearinger could possibly beat out Jefferson for the strong safety position because he simply is more athletic

The latter would be a mistake.

Maybe I'm alone in liking Jefferson, but I do. I thought we'd lose him and should have offered a higher tender. I'm glad to see all three are back on the roster.

These signings give me peace of mind. As Mitch says, Keim knows the value of his roster.

Nah, I love dude.

Dude has become extremely underrated on this forum, & I would say our 4th best player on D behind Calais, Tyrann, & PP21.

Dude has very little flaws.
