I was stating the other day how there is likely a handshake deal to restructure campbell to some extent to create cap space and keep him longer but he has no agent to negotiate this deal with.

Urban chimed in on the same thing today: http://blog.azcardinals.com/2016/03/17/agent-issue-puts-campbell-contract-on-hold/

I didnt know why he is changing agents but here it is:

Campbell’s agent had been Ben Dogra. Dogra, after an investigation, was in January suspended by the NFLPA for three years. Dogra can represent players while he appeals, but Campbell believes it makes sense to make a switch so nothing could mess up upcoming negotiations. Campbell has been meeting with agents and thinks he is close to a decision. The Cardinals have asked Campbell who is agent is — he just doesn’t have an answer quite yet.

The Cards can't restructure Campbell, only extend him.

I think Calais is a good dude and would take a deal that adds $2M onto his compensation this season and lets him play for $8M per year, $10M against the cap for the next three.

I'm sure that any agent would love to get Campbell because he's ready to pay out. The complication is that Campbell would be extending his deal after his worst season with the Cards — the bottom of the market. If he could get 8 sacks again in a contract year, he could get $45—maybe $50M as a free agent.

Do you think that last year was the beginning of a sharp decline because of age or do you expect him to have a couple impact full years left?

We really need to extend him to a friendly contract. He is not going to get any better at this point in his career but he should still be very good for a few more years. His 15 mil cap hit this year can be knocked down quite a bit. At least in half if need be to make some room.

He's only 29, so I expect the drop was from inferior talent around him and being the sole focus of offensive game-planning. He ended up with 5 sacks when he usually has 7 or 8; I think the drop off has been a little overstated on this board.

That's what I meant, extend it out and make it more palatable

Glad to hear. While I didn't think it was his best year I still saw a very good player. Measuring his performance based only on sacks also doesn't do him justice. I look for him to continue to be a force for two more years before we see a major decline in his ability.

Ide say not overstated... Going games at a time being nearly invisible... He is payed as a game changer and game changers shouldn't disappear for long stretches... He does.. How many less pressures? TFL? FFs? Batted passes? (He used to do this what seemed weekly) I can't even remember his last batted pass at the LOS?? When was his last blocked FG? Etc... The "he was double teamed" excuse gets really old... He's paid to beat double teams and be that consistent disruptive force... It's no coincidence that Arians was on him in the media and openly stating he expected more... I'm sure he didn't pick him out of thin air as his week to be picked on...

He's definitely regressed and someone payed like he is shouldn't require studs next to him to be effective... He is supposed to be the stud that is made to make everyone look better...

They need to try to extend him. Get it worked out. Just think of the times when Jones, Campbell, and Freeny(if signed) are out there. The OL wouldn't know what to do.

They don't need to extend him to accomplish that.. They just need to sign Freeney ;)

Exactly right. It's time for a pay cut.

I understand that might not be putting up the sack numbers everyone expects, but when he is off the field the team is much worse. If he was playing in Denver last year his stats would've been better than Malik Jackson, a guy that many posters wanted us to go after in FA. But here in Arizona he is the only guy teams focus on in our front seven. To think that the attention given to him didn't make lives easier for guys like Gunter and Golden would be missing the value he brings. You take him out everyone else suffers also. Sack totals can be misleading.

I pretty much agree with this. It will be fun to watch CC this year with Chandler now on the team and Golden's anticipated improvement.

an extension would be a bit of a paycut but give him like 3 more years of millions, I dont think itll be an issue.

That's what I was going to ask, if there's any way to do an extension without it actually being a pay cut.

If that's the case then, after hearing his last interview and the fact that he's taking so long to find a new agent, I really get the feeling he doesn't want to do it - but he doesn't want to just come out and say it.

It would be funny if random people started blowing up his Twitter account with names of agents that would be a great fit. "Hey Calais. Here's a good one for you. His name is Drew. He's kind of skeezy. But man, GMs tremble when they see his name ringing through on their caller ID."

Wont work that way. He will have just hired a new agent who promised him the moon so that guy will fight to the death for a big deal or just not restructure.

wont really be a pay cut as there will be more guarantees involved...and it is all about the guarantees
