Some highlights:

Knew well ahead of time that his release was coming. Whisenhunt and Miller told him well ahead of time that his reps were going to get drastically cut to give other guys reps

Asked for his release it wasn't granted

Talked about his options with Whisenhunt ahead of time, was told going on IR was best option and he was also told he would be brought back but call never came.

He said the offense is easy. Easier than Shannahan's many of the same plays are ran out of different formations and and it really doesn't require audibles. A lot of pressure taken off QB.

Very frustrated he wasn't called back and given a chance to play

Wants to coach

Pretty much resigned to the fact that his playing career is done

Feels like Kolb and the Cards are playing "chicken". Best case Kolb comes back takes pay cut and competes for starting job, worse case is he is cut. Since the Cards aren't playing for anything it doesn't make since for Kolb to come back and risk injury.

Pretty inch it. Good interview, awesome guy.

Interesting that he calls the offense easy to learn. Yet many on here have referred to it as not QB friendly and complicated at times. Weird.

My reactions are as follows:

1. Ridiculous that Bartel was not granted his release.

2. Ridiculous too that another QB has not been signed this year---it's totally OBVIOUS Kolb will not play another snap this year, not with that injury. he would be a fool to, for one.

3. So here is another roster spot being wasted on an injured player, a la Todd Heap, when improvements and/or depth at need areas could be attended to.

4. If the offense is so "very easy" as Bartel insists---how come anyone not named Warner can't run it? And---we all know, Warner ran his own adaptation of the offense out there, because we have seen nothing like it since.

5. As for Shannahan---look at how he has changed his offense to suit the strengths of RGIII. The real good HCs in this league are always trying to tinker with what they have to make it better (e.g. Bill Belichick calling Oregon HC Chip Kelly to pick his brains about the Oregon offense).

6. In Arizona under CKW---there have been no changes, save for handing the reins over to Warner for a 2 year hiatus between ineptly run same old same old offense and game plans.

7. "A lot of pressure is taken off the QBs in this offense?" All I can say is wtf.
Bartel says he wants to coach---well, if this is what he truly thinks, he might as well look into another profession.

8. Kolb should retire and get it over with. He is a very rich man. Few question his toughness now, so he doesn't have to go out with that stigma. He's had concussion issues (2 of the past 3 years) and now a debilitating broken ribs torn off the sternum injury---and in both of years with the Cardinals he couldn't play again past Week 8 (save 1 quick return game last year only to be injured again). Not a good sign for him, and certainly not a good sign for the Cardinals.

9. Wonder if Bartel didn't reveal what he really thinks---because if he truly wants to coach, it wouldn't be wise to burn the bridge with CKW.

Guys says they didn't grant his outright release, was pissed he didn't get re-signed, but then lies about his feelings about our offense?

I don't know whether to take him as disgruntled or just being matter of fact. I suppose I'll have to listen to it.

I have no idea if Whis and his staff go and talk to other coaches/staffs about what they're doing. I hope they do, but I've never heard about it.

But if you think that this football team is running the same plays/system/design right now that they did Week 1 against the Seahawks, you're crazy. Whis has completely revised the plays that are being called, including a ton of screens (including inside screens) that we didn't seen in previous iterations of the pass O.

This is crazy talk. Everone knows Whis is too stubbord to change his offense. The system works for God's sake!

You're right. The system has always been max protect on 85% of passing downs and never throw the ball more than 7 yards past the LOS.

My bad.

Bartel might also be lobbying for a job, which is why he's say the offense was "easy" to figure out. Right after the game, he tweeted out that he'd play for free.

He didn't sound disgruntled, just frustrated he wasn't given a chance this year. He sounded very matter of fact and was still in touch with people in the organization who sound to be very supportive of him.

Again for those of you with iPhones and maybe droids iheartradio app is free and you can listen to Bickley and MJ and tubedinradio app lets you listen to KTAR. Both apps are free and are musts for any out of town fans.

Yup. General Managers are all listening to Bickley and MJ hoping to find out where the next great 31 year old quarterback prospect is going to come from.

Could be that the offense is easy to learn. What's hard to learn is how not to get killed behind our oline or how to throw a football so it goes within 5-10 yards of a WR.

I'm confused, he wanted to be released, was mad he wasn't, but then was mad he wasn't brought back later?

I assume he meant if released earlier he might have caught on with another team? As in the reason not one NFL team has felt the need to sign him all year is just because he wasn't available early enough.

Being cut and rejected is hard on a persons ego, especially professional athletes. Its hard to admit that your career is over.

Yes. He wanted to be released soon to catch on with someone else.

How so? With the injury questions about Kolb going into the season, we needed four QBs in camp in case he (or someone else) went down. Just so happened that Bartel was the man who suffered the injury. Weren't you the poster who was lobbying for Kolb to take an injury settlement in the offseason?

Had the tables have been turned and either Skelton or Kolb sustained their respective injuries during preeseason, Bartel would have made the 53 man roster.

Whisen-haters would have probably blasted him for releasing Bartel before camp even with this information.

Larry being one of them. Judging by their tweets they remain good friends.

Thanks for the re-cap, Ct. I wish I'd heard the interview. I remain in the Bartel fan club. (I think the offense is easy for him because he's a smart guy.)

Wait a minute. Bartel apparently didn't ask for his release until after the 2nd pre season game when he was told he wasn't going to get many reps going forward. So where does releasing him prior to camp come from?

Also once Bartel was placed on IR I thought he couldn't come back so why would he be complaining about not getting the Nate Poole/Pago Tagofu call?

Finally, of course a guy placed on IR especially a 3rd string QB is going to have limited options with other teams. Now if he were an offensive lineman he'd be on the Panthers roster.

I would have rather seen Bartel replace Skelton in Atlanta than Lindley. I would have rather seen Bartel against the Rams and Jets as well, and not just in hindsight. After 2010, I have no desire to see a rookie QB start unless they are exceptional or we are already guaranteed a losing season.
