I'll admit that I'm shocked. I thought the Pistons overachieved all year. Basically they have Ben Wallace, Rip Hamilton, some role players, and some surprising rookies. That's not much of a team at all, but somehow they won fifty games and made the conference finals.

I'm guessing he'll catch on with someone soon. His track record during the last two years has been excellent, in my opinion.

I had honestly not heard a single thing about him getting fired, so I was shocked when I found out.

I have to say that DET's managament is stupid.Very stupid.

I think that there is a pretty good chance that this decision will destroy them in next years.

I haven't seen the Pistons enough to really judge what Carlisle did but from the outside it looked like he did great. (Larry Bird gave him high marks when he was his assistant, too.) The only thing that makes sense to me is that Detroit management expects to replace him with some coach they think is the 'second coming' - I'd guess Larry Brown.

Chap, I'd be interested to know how you saw it coming a 'mile away'. Getting swept in the conference finals while having home court advantage was a bit embarrassing but with Billiups very subpar, ti's not that surprising. Exactly where were they supposed to come up with offense with him injured? Last year they didn't do well in the playoffs either, but Stackhouse totally choked, if you remember.

Like I said, I haven't seen them play but looking at the pieces Carlisle had to work with and they made it the Conf. finals in two years I'd take him over FJ in a heartbeat. I'd rather have Silas but of course the C's won't hire either of them, since they're tainted by having success elsewhere...

Now the Suns better fire FJ or move him to a different position so they can grab one of the first class coaches available.

Larry Brown, Jeff Van Gundy, Rick Carlisle to name a few

I hope that was sarcasm, because this was coming from a mile away.

Seriously? Interesting how every reporter talks about how shocking it is, but yet you saw it coming a mile away so there's no way we could have been sriously shocked.

Youre an arrogant turd, sometimes.

Wow. It looks like some of those TNT/ESPN commentators owe some apologies. All of them were ripping into the Detroit media for articles speculating that Carlisle would be fired if he lost in the first round.

The Detroit Pistons definitely overachieved last season. One really has to wonder what Rick Carlisle could have done with a truly talented team like the Indiana Pacers. I mean the Pistons best player is a defensive/rebounding specialist with a negative presents on offense.

Joe Dumars and the gang must have had some real problems with Carlisle's coaching moves. And as somebody else already pointed out they probably think they have a good shot at one of the top available coaches like Larry Brown, Jeff Van Gundy, or Paul Silas.

Can you imagine how good the Suns would be if they sign any of these guys: Brown, Gundy, Carlisle, Dunleavy?

Now I get it. They fired Rick in order to sign Brown. Excellent move by the Pistons. As good as Carlisle is, Larry Brown is better.

What if Detroit ends up with Doug Collins. That would be pathetic.

Well, for some strange reason, as nice as some of these coaches are that are interviewing for jobs around the league, I find it actually a little comforting that we don't have to worry about it. I'm not saying that FJ is better than any of those guys (he isn't), but I'm glad we can concentrate of developing players instead of developing relationships with a new coach this summer.

That is still a brutal move to get the the conference finals and get fired. i dont care how good of a coach Brown is. cArlisle did an excellent job. I could not see Jerry doing that as the Suns also over achieved

Whew, that's a relief. Now we can be unanimously shocked! Welcome to the bandwagon, Chaplin. ;)

Apparently Brown has already been hired?

I see what you are saying Chap, but I disagree.
I would be very happy if the Suns had to worry about developing relationship with a real coach, be it Brown, Gundy, or Dunleavy.

Not yet, but the local media here reported that it's going to happen next week. We're all gonna miss Brown here.

ESPN says that Brown will sign with the Pistons.

Good move by the Pistons I have to say now.

Probably the best coach in the NBA quit his job and they took the chance to get him although they had a good coach already.

On the other hand I thought Brown's contract with the 76ers runs 2 more seasons. So how can the Pistons sign him or even talk to him unless the 76ers allow them to negotiate with Brown?

Where did I hear that a 1/3 of the coaches this year have been fired, quit, etc??? Where has there been a pool of such good coaches to choose from in the past decade? If they don't dump FJ, which Jerry will not do, we will stay in a mediocre state for the next five years. I'm sick of being mediocre when we have a good chance to excel beyond our means. The only thing that has consistently kept us down are our fourth rate head coaches!

Brown resigned earlier in the week.
