You do understand that we're far more likely to move down then up? I'd like some good luck eventually too, I just don't think we've been monumentally screwed.
We were more likely to end in the top 3 then at 4. That is fact.

It is not rigged. It's lottery. Literally random combinations of numbers.
He told Walton that weeks ago that they would for sure be in the top 3.The main issue is Magic Johnson guaranteeing that despite having odds to move down, they would be in the top 3. That is the issue.

Do it like the NFL and MLB
Worst team gets the first pick in the draft
The Dbacks got 2 number one picks.
I don't want to ever see a tank thread again. This is why.I don't like to believe in fixes but the Lakers "magically" get the number two spot exactly where they needed to be to get Ball.
They get a Hollywood ending when they need one.. again... and again....and again...
I don't think it's karma as a hypocritical Lakers fans suggests. But the fact is that we were in the 2 spot because the Suns rested vets at a time when Orlando and Philly were "gaining" on us. It was successful in that it moved us solidly into top 4 territory.
McD essentially said that. The primary goal in resting players was limiting the downside in the draft. We could draft no lower than 5th. Without tanking it could have been 7 or 8.
It's not behind closed doors. You can watch the video of it on the NBA website. It's boring though which is why it's not on ESPN. And the firm they hired isn't some small accounting firm. It's Ernst and Young who did $26 Billion in revenue last year. They aren't going to risk that over the draft lottery. The fact that it takes place behind closed doors is all you need to know. I can hire my brother in law's accounting firm also.
As Bickley said, Magic did not look like a man who was surprised by the results last night.
There is no way that a team with the 2nd worst record should pick 4th, let alone have the highest modal chance of picking 4th than any other slot.
The Lakers don't get their pick next year. Because they kept it this year, next year it's 100% unprotected so even if they got #1 they'd lose it to Philly. You all think you are angry now, just wait until next year... Celtics get Nets first pick AGAIN and Lakers are all but a lock to be in the lottery AGAIN. I will lay odds that the Suns have a worse record than both next year (well, Boston is a given) and both LA and Boston will be picking higher than the Suns next year, probably in the top three again, with a much better crop of talent at the top end.
The NBA is a giant pile of crap unless you are one of the half dozen top market franchises or are lucky enough to have one of the marketable stars in the league. The rest of the teams can literally go drop dead as far as those who run the league care.
But they kept their 2019 pick now and only have to send 2nd rounders to magic. Trust me, this played out SO much in the lakers favor it's almost inconceivable. The Lakers don't get their pick next year. Because they kept it this year, next year it's 100% unprotected so even if they got #1 they'd lose it to Philly.
