Linebacker Rolando McClain ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, but when running an agility drill, he became ill. He later disclosed that he has battled Crohn's Disease since his freshman year in high school. It's an inflammatory disease of the intestines. McClain said he treats it with medication. The junior All-American will perform two more times for pro teams in upcoming weeks and hopes to get his 40-yard dash time down to 4.5 seconds, to please himself, not the pros. McClain also disclosed that he has suffered from a hamstring injury since the Oct. 24 Tennessee game, an injury that his teammates did not know about.

I wonder if this will knock him further down draft boards?

I wiki'd this and what has been seen cannot be unseen. :(

Garrard suffers from Crohn disease but I don't know anyone else in the NFL who does.

This disease is completely unpredictable. He could be fine his entire career, or he could end up having to quit before the season even begins.

I know someone who has it and it is very unpredictable. McClain's disclosure of it will probably knock him down to the third round at least. He could miss large chunks of time because of it.

It will not knock him down. Other players have had it and played, Gerrard being one. It unpredictable means he has started for 3 straight years at a high level, such a high level he is without a shadow of a doubt the consensus #1 LB on every board in the NFL, then count me in, in wanting unpredictability.

Agreed. He's played with it since HS and hasn't had many issues, he's not sniffing the 2nd or 3rd round.

True, his team's medical staff will make sure he has what he needs to keep it under control, that 4.6 ensures him in the Top 15. Unless he gets into some serious legal trouble or gets seriously injured he will not fall.

I still don't think he falls to 26 but I do say he goes after 15. Its a bad enough disease that it's not worth the risk they are paying guys that get drafted that high.

I hope he falls to 26 but I'm not holding my breath. He deffinetly is out of the top 10 though.

I have Crohn's and it wiped out a year and a half of my high school athletic career and nagged me for nearly a semester of college. It is also a tough and embarassing condition. I am currently in good shape at 6 foot 2 - 205 pounds but was down to 145 when I was sick. Fortunately, I have been in remission for years and it hasn't been a problem for years.

That being said, I admire this Mclain and Garrard for perservering and with the medications of the day, it shouldn't hinder their career as long as they eat right and take care of themselves.

Mclain at 26 - Heck Yeah

Never was top 10 talent IMHO, mostly due to position. ILB always slide.

I think McClain will drop because of this. Whether it is all the way down to us at 26 who knows. My best guess is that McClain wont drop out of the top fifty picks. I know two people with this disease and it can be controlled but it does rear its ugly head from time to time with them. I do believe that this will put him out of the top 15 picks.

Dude has never missed a game since it was diagnosed his freshman year in highschool. Hasn't missed a game in 7 years of football, not one.

I don't think DRC missed any games with his condition either but his stock dropped anyways because of it. Paralysis by analysis can make good players drop for no real reason.

I can see him dropping because of this. He shouldn't but it wouldn't be a shock to me either

DRC played D2 ball and was the 16th overall selection. I don't think you can call that a drop in stock.

There was very real talk of him being drafted as high as 8th. Then someone reiterated that he had one kidney and fell to us as 16.

He dropped because somebody scared other teams about his potential health problems. Its a dirty tactic to get someone to fall but it happens

Can you show me the article that says Jacksonville considered him at 8?

Or are you just talking about one person's mock draft?

Because of the medical HE WILL BE AVAILABLE at 26. This is a serious matter that the teams medical staff is going to be on the hook for if they give the green light. Medical staff's do not want to take the responsibility if it doesn't work out...hence they get fired. They'll all say 'he's a risk.' he'll prob. go in the 2nd.
