I heard this on another message board

The other variation I hear is that Charlotte will take a contract off someone elses books (I hear it might be Phoenix), that team will then give the Clips a PG (milos vujanic) and the clips will swap picks with Charlotte.

The Clippers trade #2 and 3M$
The Clippers get #4 and Milos

Charlotte trades #4
Charlotte gets #2, Eisley and 6M$

Phoenix trades Howard Eisley, Milos, 3M$
Phoenix gets Nothing

We could give Charlotte the Cavs pick too although we would probably rather keep it and maybe try to dump White to a team under the cap or in a sign and trade.

If we get rid of Eisley, I'm not sure dumping White would be a smart thing this summer. At least he's a big body, and losing Eisley and Milos would give us enough to perhaps get Kobe, and maybe a guy like Blount. Of course, if we also lose White, we could probably get Kobe AND Dampier and only lose Jahidi, Eisley, and the Cleveland pick. That's not a bad trade-off. (Although I have serious doubts about Dampier's consistency)

Jahidi White
Howard Eisley
Milos Vujanic
Cleveland Pick

for

Kobe Bryant
Erick Dampier or (ugh) Mehmet Okur

That's not too bad...

If we got Kobe - we would need Okur to play the big white stiff ala Bill Wennington, Luc longley and hell even going in the way back machine to Michael's early years - Dave "The Dad" Corzine - I'd be happy with that.

I mean can you imagine if the offseason went like the above and we didn't even have to trade Marion?

JJ
Kobe
Marion
Amare
Okur

That team competes for the NBA title NEXT YEAR - not to mention we would still keep the 7th pick - are you kidding me? Although I think that scenario is a bit of a fantasy - but we can dream can't we?

It sounds interesting. However the LA Clippers supposedly want to trade down because they are in the market for a point guard in the draft. If they get Vujanic why would they trade down? Also, I have a very hard time believing they are going to pitch in $3 million in that deal. They also might be gun shy because jaric never panned out for them early.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are some very complicated traits involving the Charlotte Hornets, but I have a tough time believing this one has any validity.

Dampier would be a much better option at the 5...

Because Chad Ford also thinks they are in love with Pavel?

Any more than Shawn Marion for Tracy McGrady?

As with almost all three-team trade rumors, one team gets it in the shorts. In this case, it's the Clippers. It's very unlikely that they would pay $3 million for the privilege of moving down in the draft and obtaining "the rights to" a European combo guard who may never come to the NBA.

I could possibly see it happening with Barbosa, however.

Which poses an interesting question. Based on what we know now, who would you rather have next year: Barbosa or Vujanic?

I'm not sure we have enough information to know.

Barbosa is extremely fast, has very long arms, and promises to become a top defensive player. But he has a funky shot and may never be able to create his own shot.

Vujanic appears to be an outstanding "shoot first" point guard who can really light it up. He move well without the ball. His defense is not likely to be great, but he does try.

Neither is an accomplished distributor type point guard and both may end up playing more "off the ball" than as a true point guard. Right now I'm guessing the Suns will alternate them about equally depending on matchups unless one really emerges as the top player. Right now it is not clear which.

That might depend on whether Vujanic is actually here. I'd certainly rather have Barbosa than just Vujanic's rights.

Barbosa's terrible shot mechanics worry me; I don't think he'll ever be more than a gimmicky offensive player. But he's fast as hell and I see no reason that he can't turn into quite a pesky defender if he sets his mind to it. As long as he can make enough wide-open shots to keep a defense honest, he could be a perfectly respectable backup SG as long as he plays alongside a tall point.

Vujanic is obviously a lot more unknown, but from what I've heard, he doesn't ever figure to be much of a defender. Surely he has better shooting form than Barbosa, so that in itself might make him more valuable. But since it's unknown whether he'll ever come to the NBA, I'd have to go with Barbosa for sure. If Vujanic does come to this league, I might still prefer Barbosa, but it's impossible to guess before then.

Edit: LOL, George and I wrote basically the same response at the same time. He beat me by a couple of minutes.

Unless Kobe comes in and demands the ball every time down the floor, pisses Amare off(who is the real future of this franchise) and Phoenix's chemestry goes to hell, which is what I predict will happen if we get kobe.

that scenario actually makes some sense, but i think a more plausible one is instead of eisley, its white, and clippers don't GIVE any money (donald sterling = ebeneezer scrooge)

that way, bobcats get dwight howard and have to eat 2.8 mil of whites contract for it. clips get milos, then draft pavel, thus getting a lineup which they hope will be ready made for kobe (pg-milos/jaric, sg-qrich (or kobe), sf - magette, pf - brand/wilcox, c - pavel/kaman) suns get their caproom and also have hopes of kobe.

whoever came up with that is either a chemist or in tune with rumors or really lucky!

If the Clipps keep their pick, and add Milos I dont think they will have enough cap room. There was talk they had to get rid of Melvin Ely, who makes a relatively small amount of money, in order to make room. Q Rich would surely be gone as well.

The thing that makes the Suns more likely to pursue Kobe is they have to give up much less to have the chance. SA has to renounce Manu and Hedo. LA has to pretty much loose QRich and possibly Ely. The most the Suns would have to give up is the pick and White or Eisley.

Another thing:

Forget trying to decide who we would rather have between Barbosa and Vujanic. Would you rather have the #7 or Vujanic (on the basis Milos is coming to the suns next year). Those are the 2 most likely baits I can see being used.

Also, wouldn't that trade only work if the Cats stayed at like a 25 million payroll after the draft? Since they have just 2/3 of the normal salary cap and they would have to be able to absorb Eisley's contract. It just seems like there is a lot that has to go right for that trade to work.

Definitely rather have Barbosa. He is locked in for his first round pick deal. Vujanic is going to be asking probably 1.5 to 2 per year.

See, here we go again. There's no arguing that Amare is the future of the franchise, but why can't Amare AND Kobe be the future of the franchise? You love to put tags on people, ignoring the fact that this would be Kobe's team, and soon Kobe AND Amare's team. Why is that so hard for you to accept?

pulling out "the dad" is classic throwback.

and i think kobe and anyone would miraculous. in fact, i think kobe by himself would be miraculous. if we somehow pulled of kobe and okur i'd wet myself. if it were kobe and dampier i'd wet everyone on the board.

I am aware of your opinions on Kobe Chap, and we could rehash this for hours. My only answer to your question is, why couldn't the Lakers be Kobe's and Shaq's team. Kobe didn't want that, he wanted it to be his team. (unless the media has blown this thing out of proportions).

IMO, Kobe is a tough personality. His ego will take over for a couple minutes at a time, every game. However, he is good enough for that to not only be accepted, but to be expected.

The largest problem is Shaq's personality. He is the person who always refers to it as "his" team. Until training camp this year, Shaq is the ONLY person who complained about the offense. When Kobe was cut out, and Shaq dominated the ball, he never publically complained.

While Amare idolizes Shaq, he acts nothing like him. He wants to be great, but he wants to win more. He is constantly motivated to not only play great, but to get better.

At this point, Shaq doesn't deserve for it to be called his team. He plays unmotivated, and nearly cost the team win after win because he refuses to get better at FTs.

Maybe this does prove that we are going after Steve Nash. I would like to add one more scenerio. Jahidi White and the 7th pick (Martynas, Sabonis's boy) to Portland for Theo Ratliff, there's our center.

Nash,JJ,Marion,Amare,Theo

Eisley and White off the books.

I like it a lot.

I dont see where there is an implication in taking Nash. We have a large back log in the backcourt already, so if we trade one of our guards, that doesnt mean we are pursuing one (or a specific one for that matter)

Assuming that trade would work (it would have to be after contracts expire, which I think is July 1st), then it would eat all of our cap space. For a one year rental no less, since Ratliff's deal is up for summer of 2005. The suns would be better keeping the pick, letting White's deal expire, and sit on their space if their target is Ratliff, so they can resign him when he is a FA (which they shouldn't be loking at spending cap space on Ratliff).

To grahamcracker

If we are trading Eisley and Vujanic in the Clippers/Bobcats/Suns deal, that only leaves Barbosa.

And why not have Theo in our pocket next year and resign him at a lower salary the following year, you'll have continuity.

Actually, that leaves JJ, Barbosa, and #7. For most of last year, Barbosa and JJ got most of the time at point guard, with Eisley filling in a bit. So i'm sure we can easily replace Eisley's minutes with the #7 pick, or perhaps a cheap FA signing.

Anyway, I definately like the purposed 3 way trade.

Come on Kobe!
