I have no doubt that if the interim tag is taken off of Gibby in the offseason both Howell and Stott are gone. The downside to that, and I want them gone, is that will be three different hitting and pitching coaches the players have to deal with in three years.

These players have had intense coaching in competitive high school, college and minor league baseball. The impact of coaches at the ML level is minimal, IMO. Every now and then you get a guy like Charlie Lau and Leo Mazzone who can have a huge impact on team performance, but they both required hitters/pitchers make serious commitments to their philosophy (and often times major mechanical changes).

The real benefit of the guys on the bench are the sharp-thinking bench coaches who really know the game, usually pitchers and catchers who've spent their careers having to think about every aspect of the game at a pitch-by-pitch level. Pitching coaches? Hitting coaches? These guys are cheerleaders and A/V specialists. I assure the success or lack thereof has almost nothing to do with who fills these positions for the D-Backs.

Well whoever missed the so-called mechanical flaw that Jackson had, that was immediately seen by White Sox coaches, needs to be fired. It seems to have made a significant impact for him.

The problem with that philosophy, just as with any managed operation in the world (hospital, warehouse, attorney's office, restaurant, etc.), is that it doesn't pinpoint responsibility.

I didn't like the inefficiency I saw while working as Company Clerk and in the Personnel section in the military. But I respected the Chain of Command (even in non-combat operations) because it did indeed pinpoint responsibility.

If the Pitching Coach and Hitting Coach are nothing but cheerleaders, the team is going to fall on its face . . . such as being 25 1/2 games out of first place, with a W-L percentage of .392. Results talk!

In management, accountability is everything. Luckily we got rid of the cheerleaders. And the team's record and attitude have improved.

The team's record has not improved.

.381 W/L% with Gibson, .388 W/L% overall

It makes it really hard to take serious any comments on individual perception into an organization one must view from the outside when the commenter can't even accurately represent the readily available facts that everyone can see.

I'd have to disagree with you on that, even professional's need second opinions are there swings and can get into funks. Look at Tiger Woods, even though most of the stuff he's going through is mental he's the most talented player and still needs a coach.

How about we give Gibson a chance? Inheriting a team in mid-season means it won't be Kirk's team until Spring Training . . . if they remove the interim tag, that is.

The D'backs have made way too many bad choices leading to way too much turnover at the top to hope for instant gratification.

I like what I hear from Gibson. But my first choice was a guy with the same type of personality plus managerial and league championship experience, who was misused as a 3B coach. Yup, Chip Hale.

Let's see if the Mets recognize what they have buried in the 3B box. But then, they are just as dysfunctional as the D'backs have been.

Kirk Gibson has the chance. Now let's give him our support.

I love Gibson, and think he can manage in this league. That said, I hope we hire outside the organization. We just need a complete fresh start. We needs someone who can come in establish new rules from the start. Someone who makes the team a bit uncomfortable and on edge. Not saying Gibson doesn't do these things, but he has been around through all of this crap, and I would rather have someone who hasn't. JMO.

I was just stating a fact, one that anyone can easily look up and one that directly contradicts your statement that the team's record has improved.

Why would you state something that isn't true?

And another terrific performance from our ACE Hudson!! He's now 4 & 1 with the D-backs. 42 K's and only 8 Walks! A .870 WHIP and a 1.85 ERA!! He's averaging 7.2 innings per start!! Just awesome stuff!

Point is hype or not your boy Hudson is not an ace, he had a great 1st start but so did Enright. Find me a credible analyst who thinks Hudson is an ace or will develop into an ace and I'll show you someone who is smokin crack. Now he could turn into a #2 at best but not an ace, CHW would not have given him up if that were the case.

Care to revisit this at all??

I'll tell you what, lets see him go a whole year, if he can pull this next year I will eat crow. It's been a great month and a half but as the book on him grows with major league hitters will he still be as dominant? We'll see.
