4.5% raises

CBAFAQ.com said:
If the player is coming off the fourth year of his rookie scale contract, then in addition to a qualifying offer, his team can also submit a maximum qualifying offer. A maximum qualifying offer is for five seasons at the maximum salary with 7.5% annual raises.

Something I saw suggested on another board as an alternative to him signing the QO is to sign a 2 year max contract with the Suns that has a player option on the 2nd year. He leaves himself less exposed than signing a QO because he still is guaranteed 50% of a max deal instead of about 1/6 he'd get on the QO. Also if that offer was matched he'd have veto ability over every trade until he was a UFA.

I don't expect it to happen because he's leaving about 29mil on the table if anything happens to him, just something I had never really thought of and pretty surprised it hasn't happened in the past.

Only the home team can offer 7.5% raises and under the new CBA you can no longer work a S&T with the home team raise in effect. The max raises the Suns can offer Gordon is 4.5%.

Edit: also the home team can offer an extra year, which is why what you quoted says 5 years and the Suns only gave Gordon a 4 year deal.

It will be interesting to see what they are going to ask the Suns for....assuming they are going to grant him his wish.

But they probably could match it....then trade him to us. Not saying I want that, just theoretically.

If they match, they can't trade him to anyone for one year unless he consents and they can't trade him to Phoenix ever.

But they can do a sign (match) and trade with the Suns from everything I've read, if it's right off the bat.

But that has to be agreed upon BEFORE he signs and matches. If on the 11th Gordon signs our contract and NO matches, he's with them and can't be traded to us for the duration of the contract. Once Gordon puts his name on the dotted line of the contract, NO can't sign and trade. The goal is to get him to sign a contract with NO first and then trade that contract to Phoenix.

Good god almighty, how can this possibly be so difficult to understand?

1. The Suns and Gordon have worked out an oral agreement. Nothing has happened yet.

2. It is public knowledge that the Suns want to sign Gordon and that the Hornets have said that they will match. If that happens, on July 11th or shortly afterward, he belongs to the Hornets, period.

3. In the meantime, however, the parties involved may decide to opt for a sign-and-trade. If that happens, he belongs to the Suns, period.

If you can't understand this, try reading the above sentences again.

I believe I already stated that Eric.

But he can still be traded to the Suns later, right? :D

Can the Suns sign him and trade him back to the Hornets?

If you think this is bad, try getting the dolts at RealGM to understand. If they're not to busy trolling Hornets boards that is.

Im starting to warm to The thought of a Gordon/Goran backcourt. Both very you and both high potential. Likelihood is at least one of the
Blossoms into multiple time all star and of we get lucky, maybe both.

Still don't like the Beasley deal but at least it comes at reasonable cost.

I would much much rather have Mayo for less money.

In my opinion he is the better talent, better defender, better playmaker. The difference between them is that Mayo was a 3rd option for a playoff team for most his career while Gordon was often the #1 option for a top 5 lottery team.

Given the same opportunity I think Mayo gives the same or better production.

Safe to say Mayo is having a better year than Gordon and equally as good as Harden if not better?

Mayo 21ppg 4rpg 3.5apg 2.6topg 49%FG 53%3s
Harden 25ppg 4.4rpg 5.6apg 4.1topg 43%FG 34.5%3s

Funny you think that Gordon isn't worth the max, yet at least two NBA franchises think he is worth that...

So who knows more about basketball, two National Basketball Association franchises FOs or you?

And why would Dallas let him go? I assume they don't have his bird rights since it is just a 1 year deal but I guess Dallas must have max caproom too and will pay Mayo what he is worth now.

His shooting is abysmal since coming back. Their success since his return is that literally any SG is a major improvement over Rivers. As bleak as things look with Marshall I'm still glad the Suns didn't end up with Rivers.

And has played in a grand total of 4 games on the year and is shooting 35% in those games. The Suns are really really lucky that New Orleans matched that idiotic contract.
