Yeah what about then?

He scored 30 points in one of his first starts, something that Gortat has so far never done with much more opportunities. Point is Lopez offensively is just as capable as a scorer , possibly better.

And Tony Delk once dropped 50... he belongs in the hall!

Does Gortat have some really indecent pictures of you on his hard drive? Lopez can't even be put in the same sentence as Gortat. Your argument gives you even less credibility as a person with a strong understanding of NBA athletes. I'd say give up now and just never mention this to anyone, your secret is safe with me.

Ha, I was going to drop a Delk reference. Eric Gordon has never scored 50 points, Suns are wasting their time with him and should just bring back Delk.

Stop digging yourself a grave. Do you really want me to dig up Lopez's starts? He had plenty of opportunities to start and laid goose eggs in the majority of his starts.

You are gong to hang your hat on a 30 point game LOL. What about all the other games where he scored 0? What about all the other games were he rebounded 0? Many guys are capable of having a few good games. It's the NBA. What makes a player "capable" is if he can do it night in and night out.

Lopez can't. So stop. There is zero evidence that Lopez is a reliable starting Center. If teams in the NBA thought like you did, he would be one of the most sought after centers in the NBA in free agency. Where are all these teams that think Lopez is as good as Gortat?

Where are all the teams lining up to sing Lopez because they think he can do what Gortat does?

Stop already. I simply don't get your irrational love of Lopez and why you continually infer he is better than Gortat.

You are throwing him under the bus based on your own personal sample size that you want to judge him on coming back from his back injury. And aren't Gortat fans the masters of small sample size? Or why is an article based on the first 15 games of the season brought up in defense of Gortat all the time? An article that relies on statistics that almost all have been reversed during the course of the season?

Are we also forgetting that Gortat has been terrible closing out the season and one of the or maybe THE biggest reason the Suns in the end did not make the playoffs? For the last 20 games or so Gortat has been the polish ballerina maybe, certainly not the polish hammer.

you mean the same lopez he gets stripped of the ball down low? or the lopez that turns from 7' to 6'?

there are a number of reasons we didnt get in the playoffs. to say Gortat is the biggest reason is ignorant of our other holes in our lineup.

Is it? His offense dropped off by 25% over the last 15 games he did not even manage to score 13ppg as the #1 option.

In 3 of those games he failed to score more than 4 points despite playing minutes. Of course there are many more reasons in the beginning of the year especially but Gortat failed when it counted the most.

The only reason we still had a chance to stay in the race at the end of the year were some unlikely bench performances by the likes of Telfair, Brown, Lopez and Redd.

Maybe Gortat read your post and figured it was best to pack it in to get a better draft pick, since the front office sucks so bad. You should be happy???

I am just wondering why Lopez's playing time and stat's didn't explode?!? Afterall he was going into a FA year. Maybe Lopez just felt bad for Gortat and decided to take it easy on the guy and didn't want to outshine him in practice or on the court.

Lopez is a great guy. Why someone isn't offering him Gortat money is beyond me. Damn all those ill informed NBA teams. Damn you all to hell.

Slinslin, are you really being serious, or are you just trolling?

While I am not high on Gortat, he is a top 10 center in the league(probably right around the 10 spot) due to the lack of talent at the 5 in the league.
Lopez is not, he has been awful with the exception of a small spurt in the '09-'10 season, I don't need stats, basic/advanced/whatever. I have eyes, and anyone with eyes(maybe even ppl without?) will tell you that Lopez is not even close to Gortat's level.
If this was a glass door breaking contest though... Then Lopez all the way!

I actually watched Rockets games just to "scout" Dragic because I knew he was a free agent. He learned a lot of things from Nash and applied it on the court. He runs the transition like a pro, goes straight to the hoop with some trick moves, can change directions very fast which is difficult to guard. Long arms helps him finish at the rim over big defenders. Gets plenty of And 1's and fouls.

He also runs a pretty good P&R game which I think would be effective with Gortat and Frye (if Frye can make shots). I personally think the Suns fans will love Dragic, he's no longer that scared kid behind the legend of Nash. Oh yea, lets not forget his defense which is darn good for a guard. I have no clue why the Rockets would let Dragic and Lowry go for Lin. Lin isn't in the same league as either of those guards.

I can't believe Lin will not stay with NY.

Couldn't we do some create things like backloading Gordon's contract or putting a poison pill provision in it that would make it unattractive for New Orleans to match him with the though of trading him a year later even if he absolutely does not want to be in NO?

Gordon REALLY doesn't want to return to New Orleans. (taken from another board)

Joe Gerrity, a guy that covers the Hornets and had an interview with Gordon during the USA training.

Gordon said he has not talked to monty or dell since the first, feels disrespected. Clearly wants out.

Gordon will NOT be happy if he's a Hornet next year. I can't make that clear enough. guy was straight up about it. He wants out.

If you're wondering why I think Gordon is a goner it's because of the stuff he says. Listen to him and then tell me he'll be a Hornet nxt yr

Gordon is effectively removing all the leverage that New Orleans has.

I think by maxing him out the yearly increases are pretty straight forward.

I have been browsing some New Orleans Hornets board and it is pretty pathetic. Lots of their fans think that Gordon is just fed this stuff by his agent and that there is no arguments to chose Phoenix over New Orleans.

But seriously. The Hornets are one of the least glamorous franchises in the NBA. They have no history. Their roster consists of Anthony Davis, Austin Rivers, Jarret Jack, Farouq Aminu and Rashard Lewis.
Basically they have Davis/Rivers and a backup PG and a bunch of 3rd stringers there.

And I am not sure the Hornets will find it easy to lure good players to New Orleans to play with Davis so they will have to draft the rest of their team. So yeah even with Davis in the fold I am not sure their situation is all that great that they will become a free agent destination.

More likely they will face the same problems with Davis in 3 years when he wants out.

The Suns can front load the payment somewhat I believe but it doesn't effect how it goes on the cap. They can also add a player option(which they did) but not a ton of wiggle room in a max contract.

However if Gordon makes it absolutely clear to the Hornets he doesn't want to play with them no matter what it really puts them in a tough spot. If matched Gordon will have the option to veto any trade for the first year(so they can't just ship him off for the best offer they get), after that he will only have 2 years left before his player option.

I don't really think Gordon is worth the max, even though I'm sure most teams would pay him that. I wonder how many teams will pay him the max and give up significant assets to do it, knowing he wants out.

Yeah, but front loading is the opposite of a poison pill contract.

Could be wrong here, but I am pretty sure that the max yearly increases that can be put in a max deal for a player of Gordon's tenure is 10% per year, and I'd bet thats exactly how the Suns structured it already.

And yes, I agree Gordon is not worth the max.

Front-loading the contract of someone who is at a high risk for long-term injury seems very stupid to me.

Why? Seems to me it would be smart to do that.

Pay him the most money while he is healthy then when he gets injured you can trade him more easily.

As soon as he signs the deal he gets the same total amount and counts against the cap the same no matter what. It just gets paid out differently, and relatively speaking it's not much.

i don't see how. there have been plenty of people who have made a stink about not having their RFA contracts matched and ended up playing good basketball after. The Hornets still have all the leverage here.

Great site for info on CBA

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#appendix

CBAFAQ.com said:
To summarize, a restricted free agent essentially has five options:
  • He can accept his prior team's qualifying offer, play for one season, and become a free agent again the following summer.
  • He can accept his prior team's maximum qualifying offer (if applicable, and if one has been submitted) and play under a long-term contract at the maximum salary.
  • He can negotiate a new contract with his prior team that is independent of the qualifying offer or maximum qualifying offer.
  • He can sign an offer sheet with another team through March 1, which his prior team is given the opportunity to match.
  • If he doesn't sign a qualifying offer, a contract, or an offer sheet for one year, his prior team can submit a new qualifying offer (or maximum qualifying offer), and the player becomes a restricted free agent again the following offseason.
There can be no compensation given to a team in return for their submitting or not submitting an offer sheet, or for matching or not matching an offer to a restricted free agent. For example, Houston could not sign Golden State's restricted free agent to an offer sheet, then send Golden State a draft pick in exchange for their not matching the offer.
If the team matches an offer sheet and retains their free agent, then for one year they cannot trade him without his consent, and cannot trade him at all to the team that signed him to an offer sheet. They also can't trade the player in a sign-and-trade transaction .
