I accept the reasoning that (a) our backs might not perfectly fit Wood's offensive scheme and (b) we might need some RB depth in front of or behind Scobey (if Damien won't be back).

But we have bigger needs on this football team. And this year's talent-pool doesn't have McGahey or McAllister-quality near the top.

I think this is one of those years where you hope to find value like Michael Pittman when you draft in the 4th round - and then leap on that opportunity if it's there.

completely agree. not a MAJOR need, and not a SUPER-TALENTED class = draft a burner late and hope for a gem. please, no jumpin' on michael pittman around me.

I was using Pittman as an example of "good draft value at the time" without the benefit of foresight (Who knew at the time that he'd use his Hummer as a bowling ball and his family as the pins?)

Well if your lookin for a burner, Turners already got the burner nickname. Might be around 3rd or 4th round.

I like Quincy Wilson from WVU as well.

His stocked has risen lots of the year. Big, strong, can catch and block fairly well. I saw him third round and some draftnicks (after the Miami game) where saying he may move to early-mid 2nd.

I think Turner will be gone by the end of round 2.

A guy who may be around when we pick high in round 4 might be the Croom guy.

He's good, very tough, didn't he have a fumbling problem at one point though?

There's good RB's this year but I don't see any absolute can't miss gamebreaker. Denver has me convinced that RB is all about scouting and fitting a system. Last year Shanahan called Houston after the draft to congratulate them on getting the best RB in the draft, supposedly they thought Shanahan meant Tony Hollings from GA Tech(supplemental) but he said Domanick Davis was the best RB, looks pretty smart now. Year before he took Portis in round 2. Year before that he called the 49ers to tell them they'd got the steal RB of the draft in Kevan Barlow.

So if it were me and I wanted a RB, I'd bug Shanahan's draft room and take whoever he likes, the man knows RB's.

Yes he did and still does. I think his stock will rise/fall after the combines but if you look at the numbers he put up this year they are quite good. (excluding the 2 defeats at the hands of Maryland)

I say he is more like a 3rd round pick, but I wouldnt mind having a Jamaal Lewis type bruiser with good burst coming out of the Cards backfield!
