I think the Cardinals are in a tough spot with their running backs. Mendenhall's injury issues are well documented, Ellington has concussion symptoms & I'm not entirely sold on Taylor. Even less sold on Smith. Personally, I hope Arians & the Cardinals show a little more patience with RW. We may not need him right now, but we'll be desperate should Mendenhall go down. Should we cut him, it will come back to haunt us. It always does.

Yeah they can easily keep him through the first sets of cuts to give him one more chance. The question is will another RB pop up on the waiver wire after those initial cuts that shows more promise than Williams?

IMO if Williams isn't on the field before the Charger game next week he is doomed. He has to play against the Chargers to have a shot at making this team.

Maybe, Ryan hasnt been able to play for 2.5 years, I am losing all faith that he would ever be a starting back able to play for multiple games. lets bring in michael turner or something.

Put him on that new IR system so he can come back later in the season. That way he does not have to push it and by then we might need him.

Nonsense. Running backs who can't make themselves available, and when available average 2.4 yards per carry and 6.4 yards per reception and don't score touchdowns are kind of a dime a dozen.

What promise has Ryan Williams shown in the last 24 months?

So, when you suggested that we all stop talking about Ryan Williams did you by any chance mean stop saying good things about him?

If there are good things that Ryan Williams has done this decade, then let's discuss them. But let's not pretend that Ryan Williams is an NFL-caliber football player right now, because there's been no evidence to suggest that in more than two years.

If there's evidence to the contrary, I'm interested in discussing it.

Did you see that cut he made during that unpadded practice in camp? Totally juked Tommie Robinson, nearly spilled his coffee.

I thought he looked good in college. This isn't college. We'd be better off if Ryan got it together and became the back many of us thought he could be. Of course, we'd also be better off if Carson Palmer was ten years younger and if Fitz offered to renegotiate his contract downward. None of these are likely to happen so I don't talk about them much. Still, I see nothing wrong with some fans talking about Ryan and hoping for that miracle turnaround. I just think that if you really want to put an end to conversation about Williams (as you suggested earlier) that you might start the ball rolling by showing us how it's done.

And I'm fine with all of those clarifiers. I had been happy to let this thread die until someone resuscitated it for some reason. I just don't think we anyone can or should pretend that Ryan Williams is good. I'm less annoyed by pretensions that Stephen Williams or LaRon Byrd is good, because it's pretty clear that they aren't.

The fact that people continue to state as fact that there's some way that Ryan Williams could "help" this team, either at the start of the season or mid-year, is completely mystifying to me.

I dont think there is much doubt the RW will be gone by the start of the season.
He must know that and have accepted it.
He would have to do something spectacular to save his career at this point with the Cards IMO.
Its a shame that we will never know if he was any good or not...

Is it possible that he'll be put on IR? Most reports indicate that he isn't injured, but if he thinks he is, he is.

Why would you bother? Is there any reason to think that he'll be more willing to play in 2014 than he is in 2013?

I agree, some peeps just keep holding out hope when there's really zero hope for #34.

IMO, unless he's plays this week (highly unlikely) & performs well, he's toast. Next week is game 3 & BA is gonna want Mendenhall & someone else playing like starters in that rehearsal game. See ya Ryan

Can we lock this thread so I might stop thinking of the 2011 draft picks not named Patrick Peterson?

People keep repeating this, but I don't necessarily know that's true, either. I think he'll make to the last cutdown date, and maybe even into the regular season, because he has sponsorship from Steve Keim, Super Scout, who almost certainly proposed and signed off on this super-bust.

I think that Williams is going to get every chance to show that he can be good. I don't think the Dallas game particularly matters--I think as long as he shows up in one or two preseason games and can illustrate that he's continuing to learn the playbook and the offense, he'll make the team.

If it's embarrassing to give up on third-round picks after one season (Buster Davis), it's even more embarrassing to give up on second-round picks after two seasons (Cody Brown). I'm sure there would be apologists and waters-muddiers, but it would be another black eye on Steve Keim.

Wiiliams is a 'black eye' for Keim if he could have foreseen his injury. Coming out of College, Williams was ranked as one of the top two backs and had a late first, early second grade in many publications.

And the year before Cody Brown in the second round, where was he projected?

Late second, third, if I recall correctly.
oh ya, "it is hard to keep track of all these players!"

Ken Whisenhunt, Rod Graves, and Steve Keim.

"If we tell people all three of us are involved, we can spread the blame around."

Unless I'm mistaken Buster Davis never even made it out of training camp. He was cut before the regular season even started. Talk about your bad picks, he was one of the worst. You would hope that a third round pick would last at least a season or two.
