If they don't lose any draft picks, that won't be close to enough. It's quite probable they wouldn't have won the Super Bowl without this dirty play crap. Their ability to compete should be crippled just as they crippled the ability of other teams to compete.

Goodell needs to treat this as the football equivalent of the Black Sox scandal in baseball. Lots of parents are already getting wigged out over letting their boys go into football. If it's too dangerous, then the talent pool is going to start to dry up and cripple the game long term. He HAS to send a strong message. I mean, this is just two weeks after Troy Aikman saying he wouldn't let a son play football.

The Saints absolutely WILL lose draft choices IMO. New England lost a #1 from the Belicheat scandal as I recall. Heck the Niners lost a draft choice for nothing more than alledgedly tampering with another team's player. I could see them losing 2 #1 picks over this in addition to very steep fines on the franchise and Payton.

As for Williams, it starts at a one-year suspension. With the allegations spreading to Washington and Buffalo, he'll be fortunate to be coaching anywhere. It'll be interesting to see if the Rams can him over this.

Believe me thats not the case...the Cards didn't know the meaning of "real defense" until this year except for a 3-4 seasons in their history & we haven't had the greatest list of intimidators on that side of the ball.

Outside of the Philly West years most of our defensive players would basically lay you down on the turf then help you back up. ;)

Check out Sando's stats about roughing penalties from 2001 and on......we're up there. In his blog.

When I heard this "teased" on the radio, they didn't give the team's name, but I already guessed it was the Saints. I still remember that last hit on Warner, and the look on his face. I told my wife right then that he was done for good.

He may have been leaning heavily toward retirement at that point, but if the Saint's bounty system gave him the final shove out the door, I want blood.

If you guys haven't read Peter King's article in SI, I highly recommend you check it out. It's pretty damning and you get the sense that Goodell is going to come down very hard on the Saints. I wouldn't be surprised to see Loomis get a year suspension, Payton to get at least an 8 game suspension and Williams to get a multi year suspension (I read a lifetime ban would violate anti-trust laws). That article paints a picture that is worse than what we first heard.
