The New Orleans Saints have had an extremely lengthy list of interviews throughout the 2025 offseason heading into the NFL draft. With more reports coming out by the day about players they have spoken with both recently and during the events of the early process, this list has only grown with new prospects added daily.
One of the recent additions was BYU offensive tackle Caleb Etienne, who has met with quite a few teams at this point, including the Saints, which was reported by Justin Melo of The Draft Network. He also notes that the Saints had two meetings with the highly touted tackle, one virtual and one local day invite for an in-person meeting as well.
Etienne has predominantly played at left tackle in his collegiate career, but he has also had time at right tackle at points. He has exceptional size, with a listed height of 6-foot-7, an 86-inch wingspan, and weighing in at 329 pounds. Melo had his performances in the physical evaluations at a 4.96-second 40-yard dash, a 30-inch vertical jump, and a 9-foot-6 broad jump. That's good for a 9.27 Relative Athletic Score, which we know correlates with the metrics the Saints value in-house.
This type of size and athleticism is rare, even at the NFL level, and his production matches this, with 447 pass-blocking snaps in 2024, and only three sacks allowed alongside 24 pressures. This is the type of pick the Saints would be looking for potential and traits, which absolutely fits their draft criteria based on recent history.
While they already have the left tackle spot locked up with Taliese Fuaga, Trevor Penning at right tackle has been hit or miss, so exploring their options and finding the best talent available will be crucial, even if it is not an immediate position of need.
