Here is a starting point projection of salaries without free agents and only modest costs for salary extentions.

If the salary cap is $43 million, even if the Suns got rid of Marion they would only be able to offer $15.3 million or so next year assuming they sign Harvey after he they signed Kobe. If the Suns were do to better than #10 and #15, the amount of money available drops even further.

Summer of 2005 is only slightly better because the increases for Stoudemire and Johnson kick in along with another draft pick.

Vujanic will only count if he plays and I am not to sure we will keep both picks or were they will end up.

The whole point of this was to show the impact of the various decisions. For example, the draft is before the free agency market opens up. At that point, you dodn't know what people are asking (such as Kobe). Do you get rid of your picks on the chance that you might sign a free agent?

Vujanic has been saying he WILL sign. The Carbakapa connection will help here. At worst, Eisley may simply get cut or have his contract bought out but I'm sure he will be gone.

2 things about this:

1) Most reports about Vujanic are extremely conflicting. One day he'll want to stay and fulfill his contract in Italy, the next he wants to come over.

2) I don't know where you get that idea about Eisley. Right now, there is probably an 85-90% chance that Howard Eisley will be with the team next year. He doesn't have a buyout and I can't imagine he'd agree to one.

Of course the cap will be at 45-47M$ or something like that I heard.

And 2.5M$ for Vujanic seems a little much. More like 1-1.5M$.

I'll bet you right now that if the Suns can get Vujanic over here nine season he will be paid at least $2 million per season.

However, that's definitely the Suns option whether we want to sign Vujanic already next season. If we need the cap space for another important FA, we'll just let him develop one more year in Europe. Or we sign the FAs first and give Vujanic the 1.5 exception if it's available to us.

In the first half of the Denver game, Eisley played very well. If he played that way for the rest of the season, the Suns probably would have Vujanic spend another year in Italy. However, I am sure the Suns want to have him here as soon as is feasible to get a chance to develop his NBA game.

As for the buyout, I'm thinking of the kind of arrangement that the Nets did with Mutombo. Basically, it means taking the cap hit in one year. Doing this would clear cap for 2005.

I was a lot less impressed with Eisley in the second half of the Devner game: too much dribbling, taking long jumpers, not getting the ball to JJ, etc.

In any case, the Suns plans for this this summer will be defined by what they do in the draft and with Vujanic.
