We're in great shape for next season.

Unless Davis really makes a huge improvement this season, he and Racker will probably get the veteran contract worth $850,000, that only counts $450,000 against the cap. Davis is playing on that kind of contract right now and eventhough his game has improved, he's not getting younger. So I doubt that will be a problem signing him to a deal like that, especially if Bryant steps up his season. That takes care of 2/3 of our main problems.

The quarterback position could end up costing us a big chunk of cap space. If Warner or McCown really excels this season it could costing us $5M+. If Warner and McCown fails then we're probably in the market for a QB and luckily the QB market should be the best many years next season. The Chargers have to make up their mind about Brees and Rivers. The Bucs have to make up their mind about Simms and Griese. Ramsey is the best QB in Washington (by far), but is gone next season. Harrington could be cut in Detroit. Volek and Gerrard are both going to be a UFAs. So is Aaron Brooks..
I'm (obviously) hoping that Warner or Josh will get the job done, but I wouldn't mind signing Ramsey as the long-term answer if they fail. I think he's a really good player.

But still there should be plenty of money to sign some quality free agents even after we sign or re-sign a QB and give out new deals to Boldin and Dockett, who probably will get a new deal if he continues to progress.

Minor Updates:

Took out the guys that were cut, added the ones that were signed.

Hambirck got a bigger signing bonus then I realized, didnt make that much of a difference in the final numbers.

Still dont have the signing bonus amounts for Mitchell and McCoy, but thats negligible as of right now.

We are at max roster capacity which is 80, but we get 6 NFLE roster exceptions from Carothers, Blizzard, Croom, Curry, Smith, and Mayes, which is why we can carry 86 players.

Are you going to update it completely after Rolle signs?

Yeah. I am going to make just one big update instead of a bunch of small ones. I am going to wait for Rolle and for the contract numbers for JR, Jackson, and Johnson to come in, before I make a complete update.

When ever the heck I feel like it. And I wont be doing it anytime soon with that attitude. Now see what you did, you ruined it for everyone else now. You pushy little ...........

OK I am over it. Soon, grasshopper, soon. Patience is a virtue. Blah, Blah, Blah ;) :D

All joking aside, I havent looked at my spread sheet for a month. I have been getting slammed at work, family in town for a week, and I am getting ready to move, ect, ect, ect.

But for a quick estimate, we are probably sitting on about a little under 4 mill. right now. Perfect for injuries and mid season extensions.

TOTAL (Top 51) $60,460,667

RFA - They will cost anywhere from the low of 656k to the high tender of 1.8 mill. Either way each of them are ours unless another team wants to give us compensation of where they were tendered or drafted (*note if we didnt draft them we dont get compensation just the right to match the offer). So basically they are ours if we tender them, at a cheap rate, but we will have to extend their offers during the season before they hit UFA status the next year. I could see us tendering at the least half of these guys. RFA's (3 years experiance)

Kenny King DT
Gerald Hayes LB
Reggie Wells G
Langston Moore DT

EFA - Now the real cheap guys at 230 K, the EFA's. But dont be fooled by them being cheap a lot of them could play vital roles for us. EFA's (2 or less years experiance)

John Bronson TE
Adrian Mayes S
Dan Sheldon WR
Ernest Shazor S
Jermaine Hardy CB
Rolando Cantu G
Tim Bulman DT
Tyler King DE
Shawn Lynch C
Andy Stokes TE
Antonio Smith DE

UFA

Neil Rackers K
Obafemi Ayan FB
Russell Davis DT
Josh McCown QB
Kurt Warner QB
Raymond Walls CB
Quentin Harris S
Ross Kolodziej DT
Adam Hayer OT
J.R. Redmond RB
Bill Conaty C
Harold Morrow FB
James Jackson RB
Eric Johnson LB
Charles Lee WR
Reggie Swinton WR/KR/PR
Ian Allen OT

Davis' cap figure for 06 begs to be renegotiated or cut. That salary really stands out. Very few teams would carry that numer when it's that heavy to the salary side.

2006 cap analysis -

Lets for arguements sake say that we give each of the EFA's a tender offer of the 230 K. And we also give the RFA's the Mid Tender offer of 1.4 mill. (Doesnt mean we will give a tender to all EFA's and RFA's though, just using a worse case scenerio) We will also use the high amount of 4 mill for the rookie cap. Now lets say that we use the conservative increase of the cap to 90 Mill.

11 x 230K = $2,530,000

4 x 1.4 mill. = $5,600,000

Rookie Cap = $4,000,000

90 mill - 2.53 mill - 5.6 mill - 4 mill - $60,460,667 =

$17,409,333 to spend on our own UFA and other FA's.

NOTE = Davis will be restructured that is a gaurantee. Plus not all of the EFA's will get a tender, and the not all of the RFA's will get the middle tender, some will get it but a few will most likely get the low tender. Plus a few of our own UFA will be re-signed during midseason using up most of our 5.5+mill we have left this season to lower their cap hit in 2006. So when looking at the 17+ mill figure above remember that it is on the low side worse case scenerio estimate.

Thanks Joe! Compare this sheet to the one at the end of last year. Starks, Shelton, Thompson, Clement, and Bryant were all getting paid massive salaries; many of which will be off the books soon.
