49ers appear ready to part ways with Singletary

Mike Singletary’s days with the San Francisco 49ers appear numbered.

Team president Jed York addressed reporters in St. Louis after the Niners’ 25-17 loss Sunday and was noncommittal about whether Singletary will coach the season finale at home next Sunday against Arizona. He said money isn’t an object in this decision considering Singletary has two years remaining on his contract.

“We’re going to take our time before we make any decisions like that. We don’t want to make an emotional decision right now, after the game,” York said in the locker room. “Obviously, we didn’t achieve the things we set out to achieve. We should be a playoff team. We aren’t a playoff team this year. Very disappointed about that. We need to figure out how we can get into the playoffs and how we can start competing for Super Bowls.

Wow. Can't believe they did it with 1 game to go. I wonder if he pulled his pants down for York as he left...

damn i really wanted it to work out so that the 9ers needed a win against us next week to take the west so the game would be more hurtful when we trounced them, oh well, maybe he would make a good linebacker coach

I think he gets another job somewhere. Like Freebyrd said though,as an assistant. He was in way over his head as an HC(obviously) but IMO he got his team to play hard when he wasn't mismanaging everything else.

Singletary was the LB's coach for the Baltimore Ravens in 2003. Coached there for one season(maybe it was 2?) and then he was basically hired by Mike Nolan in SF after Nolan left Baltimore as a DC to become the HC in San Fran.

I honestly didnt know that. I thought he was 1st hired by SF.
Singletary coaching Ray Lewis.....i wonder what those meetings were like? LOL

The reason why they waited because had they won today, they'd still be in the hunt for the division.

Not yet bro, we gotta win @ Seattle next week. Winner takes the division....loser goes home. Seattle is banged up pretty good but it is @ Qwest Field....so it will be a tough game.

Skelton looks promising,if nothing else he's a worthy project with great upside. Go get yourselves a veteran QB and you guys will be into the thick of it again just like that IMO. Too much talent here in AZ to just fall off the face of the Earth in one season.

I thought Coughlin would get the ax first.
As bad as the Giants have collapsed the last two weeks, they still have a good shot at the 6th seed. If they beat the Redskins and the Bears beat the Packers, the G-Men are in. Bears shouldn't take the game lightly, as they are still playing for a bye.

My guess is that Coughlin stays.

Damn. I was hoping he was the long term answer in SF.

Maybe they will hire Russ Grimm--that would be doubly good for us.
