Its inevitable that a team, someday, becomes a contender. look at the not-too-long-ago 0-16 Lions.

While it would suck if they got Carson, its still manageable. It would be BAD if they got/get Luck. Hes got an entire career ahead of him while Carson only has a handful more seasons.

Yep my nine year old nephew would of drafted Stafford, SUH and Calvin

Johnson. Seattle has already won too many games to get Luck in my

opinion.

levi brown begs to differ.

Whichever is better at our draft pick of the two options. That is what we take. We better effing not reach for a pass rusher with a strong OT on the board. Vice versa...if OT is a reach and a strong pass rushing OLB is there, we better not wimp up and reach.

If Kalil is there he will prolly be a Cardinal. If not we reach for Reiff at five.

If Reiff stays in school we reach for Martin. If Kalil Reiff and Martin are

gone we say ##### it and draft Blackmon:D Just kidding Reiff and Martin

are excellant prospects. What if the Cards try to make Coples another

Mario Williams?

game winning drive @ CIN @ PHI @ DET

all 10 oclock games vs. good teams

all Alex Smith

Alex Smith is a very hard working and likable guy. If you weren't a fan in the NFc West you would want him to do well too.

We are shedding the NFC Weak title. You guys should be happy for the division.

The winning on the East Coast is impressive. the thing is you are creditting the wrong guy in some weird attempt to convince yourself that the 49ers solved the QB question.

Those games you were talking about 13-8 over Cincy 201 yards passing they won because Dalton struggled so bad. 24-23 Philly 291 yards passing probably the best game of his career. And today 125 yards passing. 2 of those games were only close because Smith couldn't throw the ball.

It's great that he's making plays to help them win at the end but the reason theyr'e 5-1 is simple he's NOT losing the games on his own like he used to and that's because Harbaugh has designed a system that prevents him from doing so. He's saving Smith from himself.

Russ will tell you that I'm a huge admirer of Alex Smith, but to say that anything that you note outside of the Detroit game was "all Alex Smith" is a ridiculous overstatement. Smith's game-winning drive against Philly?

# 1-10-SF 23 (6:28) (Shotgun) 11-Alex Smith pass short left to 15-M.Crabtree to SF 26 for 3 yards (23-D.Rodgers-Cromartie).
# 2-7-SF 26 (5:51) (Shotgun) 21-F.Gore up the middle pushed ob at PHI 49 for 25 yards (41-J.Page). WATCH HIGHLIGHT
# 1-10-PHI 49 (5:24) 11-Alex Smith pass short right to 85-V.Davis to PHI 42 for 7 yards (59-B.Rolle).
# 2-3-PHI 42 (4:45) (Shotgun) 32-K.Hunter right end to PHI 44 for -2 yards (51-J.Chaney). PENALTY on PHI-59-B.Rolle, Face Mask (15 Yards), 15 yards, enforced at PHI 44.
# 1-10-PHI 29 (4:38) 11-Alex Smith pass incomplete deep right.
# 2-10-PHI 29 (4:33) 11-Alex Smith pass short right to 85-V.Davis to PHI 26 for 3 yards (41-J.Page).
# 3-7-PHI 26 (3:52) 32-K.Hunter left end to PHI 12 for 14 yards (41-J.Page).
# 1-10-PHI 12 (3:05) 21-F.Gore right tackle for 12 yards, TOUCHDOWN. The Replay Assistant challenged the runner broke the plane ruling, and the play was Upheld. WATCH HIGHLIGHT
# 2-D.Akers extra point is GOOD, Center-86-B.Jennings, Holder-4-A.Lee.

In case you're not working through the word salad, that adds up to 3 for 4 for 13 yards on an eight-play drive that went 77 yards. "All Alex Smith"? C'mon, now.

Here's the "game-winning" drive against Cincy:

# 1-10-CIN 32 (3:54) 32-K.Hunter left tackle to CIN 33 for -1 yards (94-D.Peko).
# 2-11-CIN 33 (3:11) 32-K.Hunter right end to CIN 33 for no gain (93-M.Johnson).
# Timeout #2 by CIN at 03:05.
# 3-11-CIN 33 (3:05) 85-V.Davis left end to CIN 35 for -2 yards (22-N.Clements). CIN-22-N.Clements was injured during the play. {End around}
# Timeout #2 by SF at 02:21.
# 4-13-CIN 35 (2:21) 2-D.Akers 53 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-86-B.Jennings, Holder-4-A.Lee.

That's 0-0 for 0 yards on a drive that went 3 yards backward.

Alex Smith is being handled the right way. Maybe he'll be asked to do more as the season progresses, but at least he's not killing the team and making unforced errors.

yup... he's like a slightly better version of Trent Dilfer for the Ravens right now. nothing more, nothing less at this point. but that's all he has to be with that running game and defense.

Alex Smith does suck.

That being said, the 9ers are a legit team. Very good D, and Gore is is indeed a monster. God help us if they get another WR besides Crabtree (who has talent, but still hasn't completely figured it out) and a real QB.

Wait till Braylon Edwards comes back after the BYE.

The #1 thing in SF right now is coaching. Interesting read for all football fans right here:

That'll either be the final piece of the puzzle or the beginning of the end for SF IMHO. If they are smart they will continue to baby Smith and limit what he's allowed to do. if they get greedy and say ok now we're going to start taking some shots, it'll be deja vu all over again IMHO.

It's the Stanford system it works because they play multiple TE's and if you play extra run stoppers they get you in single coverage and hit the TE. If you play your pass defense they run all over you.

If he gets cute with Edwards i think it's a huge mistake but I think Harbaugh knows that too. he didn't have big play WR's at Stanford either he won with TE's, possession guys and guys like Baldwin and Owusu who were fast but inconsistent or injury prone.

Did anyone take note of the blanket pass coverage ILBs Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman put on TE Pettigrew and the other inside receivers? Textbook. Absolute textbook. Talk about preparation---this is what wins games.
We could have the best preparation in the world and Paris Lenon, Joey Porter, and Clark Haggans would not be able to keep up with an above average TE. Nor can Adrian Wilson anymore for that matter. Talent is talent.

the Niners will probably run away with the division and straight into a ditch, like most teams in this division do with a lead into the final games

Like the Cardinals did in '08? That was really weird tanking like that and then doing a complete reversal in the playoffs.

Did you know that the NFC West has only lost one home playoff game to a team outside the division since the realignment in 2002?

Since the Rams beat the 'Hawks on the road in '04 the NFC West has won every home playoff game. 6 years and 8-0.

Cards season is toast, I mean, look at their next 8 weeks Cards play vs. Pit (4-2), @ Bal (4-2), vs STL (0-5), @PHI (2-4), @SF (5-1); @STL (0-5), vs DAL (2-3), vs. SF (5-1).

Based on record there are "winnable games" there, but the only win I forsee is the game at home vs. STL. Facing STL in their place on the 3rd consecutive road game does not bode well for this team. Winning in Baltimore, SF, and Phi; forget about it.

I say the team is 1-5 in the next six and may wind up 1-7 at the end of this brutal half of the season.

Niners will have this division wrapped up by week 11.

Cards are looking like a 2 to 3 win team max IMO.

You don't really even need to look at the schedule to know the Cards season is toast. If the 4and9ers only win 3 more games the Cards have to finish 7-4 to catch them and 8-3 to pass them in the standings.

I just don't see SF finishing 3-7. Or even more unlikely the Arizona Cardinals winning 7 of 11 to finish. They have done it twice though, 1998 and 2009.

Hey if Plummer could do it and beat the Redskins in DC maybe Kolb can too beating SF on the road.

How clutch is Feely?

Smith is a game manager at best, as long as he doesn't eff up the team can beat anyone with that defense.

He is not a world beater and 3 combacks is a step in the right direction, not a reflection just yet...

Like Harbaugh said, we are taking baby steps 1 day at a time.

I'll take a smart QB over a ****** gun slinger like Tony Romo any day of the week.

is that the ****** gunslinger that beat you a couple weeks ago and has taken his team to the playoffs 3 times in the last 5 years while Alex Smith has never gotten there once? you put Romo on that team and they're a legit Super Bowl contender. As of now, your a playoff contender, but a complete Super Bowl pretender. Alex Smith will only get you so far. Ask the Jets about that.

HAHAAHAHAHA what is Romo doing in Dallas right now? their defense is almost as good as us and they have more weapons on offense. According to you Romo >>>>> Alex Smith right? they sure don't look that good to me.

BTW we lost to them cuz of a blown coverage (WR running free) in OT and before the game tying TD, Romo was sacked only to get called back by a BS offside. AND we also played WITHOUT Crab and Braylon Edwards that game.
