The chances of us taking a DT at #6 overall in the draft are about one in a million...and I ain't saying there's a chance!!!

Still, even though I'd rather have Leftwich, Suggs, or Trufant/Newman, there's a little piece of my heart that would be happy to add my PSU bro through the draft.

Well teams did, and did so productively.

Suggs will get pressure and sacks, which will result in 3 and outs, which will lower BOTH passing yards AND rushing yards. Jimmy Kennedy will HELP stop the run, but with our DE situation, he won't help too much.

No one's saying don't draft Suggs if he's there, at least I'm not. I'm saying that if you can't get Suggs, you have to get a 2-gapper like Kennedy.

I think that a 2-gap player will get double teams off Bryant and KVB, and if Wendell's as good as I think he is, and KVB is as good as everyone but me thinks he is, then that'll equate to pressure on the QB, especially if we can get help from Dennis Johnson's progress.

One of the secrets of the ball-control offense is that you have to keep the opposing team from rushing the ball, too. If you both pound the ball, then it'll basically be the last team with the ball wins by a field goal. A high-level 2-gap DT improves the pass rush (thereby improving secondary play, you guys who are begging for CBs), and helps stop the bleeding in the running game, by freeing up the LBs to flow to the ball.

A quick word on 1st Round Corners: a true shut-down corner comes around once every five years in the draft. Three or four names come up every year about who the next great one will be. What did Quentin Jammer do last season? What about Lito Sheppard? Mike Rumph? Sheldon Brown? Anyone remember Fred Smoot? What about Tommy Knight? Philip Buchanon? What I'm saying is that the rate for error in #1 CBs is egregously high, and I'm not sure you can afford an error like that at #6 on this team when you can get a player that can make an immediate effort and is more of a known commodity.
