I don't have any doubt whatsoever that Wright would be more effective as a 3rd down back than Minter. The guy causes havoc in the defensive backfield.
Alright, throw stones at me if you must but it is very hard for me to view a lot of these posts without having to convince myself there is not also a strong bit of homerism going on because as far as the nation is concerned... Arizona universities are not exactly a threat to teams eyeing the national championship
Reason why Scooby would be a better 3 down linebacker than Minter is because he can rush the passer from all of the gaps. Minter can't rush the passer at all.
Arizona ran a lame SWAT package, mainly on 3rd and long plays, in which the defense kicked Scooby out as an outside pass rusher on the strong side and would consistently disrupt tackles to get to the QB. Here's an example:

This is why I think the Minter comparisons are really off target.
Scooby was getting blocked and Mariota ran right into him.... Please tell me you got better than this!!!
Because Texas, at the moment, is killing CFB?
Personally, I've only been high on a few Wildcats going into the NFL, one of which was Rob Gronkowski. When it comes to players for the Cards, I don't care where they attended college, as long as they can help my team win ball games. As someone who is objective, has a good eye for football and watches a lot of Wildcat games, I think I can give a fairly informed opinion on Scooby and how he'll transition into the pros.
I'll be happy if and when this board figures out that Scooby is not comparable to Kevin Minter. That's just a lazy comparison, IMO.
Love the production in college...Scooby is a real baller, but realistically, because of his physical limitations, he might not get drafted.
Mitch you're so close to being WRIGHT...Pun Intended
I said he should stayed in school, and I would bet he's thinking the same thing right about now.
The problem is in today's game 2 down base ILBs are not in demand, and typically the ones who get drafted are hammer guys like Kentrell Brothers.
At BC we have an ILB in this draft named Stephen Daniels, who was outstanding this year. To my knowledge, he hasn't been selected as of yet.
So, it's partly the position and it's partly how much of a thumper the ILB is. Scooby is not fast enough to be a 3 down ILB, and that's the issue. No one questions him as a run defender.
Might not get drafted? That's about as likely as the Cards trading Calais to Buffalo for a 3rd round pick.
Methinks something popped up in his physicals that threw off teams. Even with the poor combine results, he still should've been drafted. There's no other explanation.
As much as I like Blake Martinez out of Stanford, who was drafted in the 4th round, Scooby is 3x the LBer.
This is somewhat similar to Tony Jefferson. Gets a 2nd round grade, has an unimpressive combine due to a hamstring issue, plummets, and then ends up being a good player. It happens. GMs tend to overthink and overanalyze circumstances, which oftentimes, cost them their jobs.
As for Scooby, this is kind of his thing. He's used to getting overlooked and proving people wrong. He did it in college and wouldn't be surprised if he did it again in the NFL.
Not bustin your chops TJ we've all made miscalculations when it comes to the draft. I pimped Ryan Leaf or that other guy....what his name? Oh ya Peyton Manning. It's a crap shoot, for sure.
If Scooby Wright goes undrafted, I hope the Cardinals give him an invite.
They might want to consider Mike Bercovici as well.
The only Sun Devil I would consider is Foster. Berco's not an NFL quarterback. Way too erratic and inaccurate, even when his feet are set.
