It's a referendum on Kyler.
on this board only

or maybe is the referendum is "game manager" vs "top 8 kinda QB"

its hard to imagine the level of non-performance necessary over the last 5 games that would lead the FO to conclude that they need to start over at QB.

I like that referendum on "game manager" vs "top 8 kinda QB" statement. Game managers don't consistently win the big games. Top 8 QBs usually do. At least until they advance far enough into the playoffs that teams get whittled down.

Here is what I know. Kyler is not better than Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, Jared Goff, and Matt Stafford. So that puts him out of the top 8.

Kyler is having worse or similar statistical seasons to Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, and CJ Stroud despite those other three all being in their first or second seasons, and theirs teams also having a better record. I don't think he really belongs in a conversation with these players because it is more about preference and how you view the gap. You could argue a preference for Stroud whose down year in tear 2 is still statistically better than Kyler's year this year and so you would prefer the upside of Stroud.

Kyler is having a worse or similar statistical season to Baker Mayfield, Russell Wilson, Geno Smith, Jordan Love, and Sam Darnold and those QBs are producing a similar team record or better. Love is kinda a weird inclusion in here but I look at it as at age 26, he is more vet than not. Kyler fits in this group IMO. These players are all kinda established (outside of Darnold) as to what they are.

None of this factors in Tua, Brock Purdy or Dak.

How you "rank" these guys is tough but I would disagree with Kyler being even in debate as a top 8 QB without significant improvement.

i think Stafford, Goff and Hurts are interesting examples. All seem to have risen and fallen based on the talent around around them on offense.

Kinda disagree. Stafford, Goff and Hurts have all generally put up high regular season stats along with wins. Stafford is still really good despite the roster disintegrating around him. He is probably underrated. Hurts is top 8, and you can argue the tush push is a significant reason which can't be duplicated. Kyler has nothing like that in his game. Goff is still a high producing regular season QB despite a run heavy offense. Goff has more yards and TDs per game on less attempts.

Kyler doesn't really compare to these three statistically or in terms of team success. Nucua was a 5th round guy Stafford made work. AStBrown was a 3rd rounder Goff has made work. Kyler can't figure out how to make MHJ work. It's not as binary as that, but it is a separator IMO.

Stafford has had good years, but he also has had very average years (i.e. ranked in that 10-20 range of QBs)

Stafford was mediocre early this year when the o line was makeshift and his WRs were injured. He is now playing better as the personnel around him improved.
A similar arc could be tracked in 2021 (really good) , 2022 ( mediocre), 2023 (better)

His passer rating, for what its worth, is the same as Kylers right now

Hurts is top 8,
Hurts is another interesting example. Last year at seasons end -- fans were wondering if he was even the guy. They lost 5/6 down the stretch were he was 5 TDs/ 5 ints. Bottom third passer rating in 2023.

fast forward: this year a new OC and Saquan Barkley and he is a new guy.

Last year at seasons end he was clearly injured. The previous year without Barkley he was the MVP runner up and 2 minutes away from winning the Super Bowl.

And he was the guy in his second season where he also took the Eagles to the playoffs.

It may help those of you who are stressed to think of this like I do. This wasn’t supposed to be the Cards coming out year. I think of these as bonus games. Great if they win; understandable if they don’t. I’m excited about the game but it’s fun just to have meaningful games at this stage of the season.

This has nothing to with Hurts or Barkley, but damn I am very jealous of their front 4 on defense lol

kinda my point

these QBs have variability year to year --

i know its kinda chicken and egg -- but his best year was also the best Eagles roster

But yea Jalen Hurts is a polarizing QB to people I’ve communicate with. Both NFL & Philly fans.

It's remarkably similar to Kyler arguments here from the few I have read.

Of course it's the cursed black jerseys for biggest game of season smdh
I don't like them. But we did beat the Chargers wearing them and the last time we beat Seattle at home we were wearing black.
