Second most important OL position?

I've entered an alternative universe where centers, who can half their time uncovered with help either side are more important because they have to call the Mike and possibly slide protection than right tackles who face the best pass rushers head up every snap with no outside help and often no inside.

This is an ASFN low. It's RT and literally everyone in football from the locker room assistant to Goodell will say so.

If you're a bad team with the best kicker in the NFL, you're still drafting in the top 5. If you lose the best kicker in the NFL to an injury, you're still going to get 97% of his production from the guy you sign off the street.

The bookends are most important. I picked center because ....well, recency bias really.
And, because when you have that rare center that helps his QB with the calls it really does benefit the offense....
But truly, a QB can't do squat if he has 250 pounds of linebacker blasting into him before he finishes his dropback

Seriously tho - as for C vs RT I think it's a wash (paychecks be damned) especially if your QB is playing under Center where the pocket is everything

I gave you literally what you asked for and now you're moving the goal posts.

Eight of the top 10 all time field goal kickers are currently playing in the NFL. Two more left last year (Josh Lambo and Robbie Gould). Every one of the top 5 most accurate kickers ever are currently playing.

Across the board, kicking has achieved such a high quality that it's a meaningless commodity. The difference between the #1 and #32 kicker (probably really the #45 kicker) is so narrow as to be almost meaningless.

I didn't make that argument. I argued that the kicker is an important position.

If you are not good enough to play LT they move you to RT.

If you can't play RT they move you inside to G or C.

And if you can't hack it at guard, you play center.

My immediate thought was RT, but went with Center because they are responsible for directing/changing the blocking calls for the entire line. RT probably has a higher direct likelihood of getting the QB killed, but Center is probably more important to having a strong overall

Good analysis. Both ARE important. I picked Center because an all pro at the position elevates the entire OL. He touches the ball on every snap. Bad and fumbled snaps kill drives. You could argue that you can help a mediocre RT with your tight end and RB chips on passing downs. These popular 5 man fronts expose weak centers. It is easier for an RB to help blocking a DE than DT.

And it is harder to execute a brotherly shove with a crappy Center.,

Playing in space against great athletes is one of the most difficult things to do in football along with winning one on one battles. Both tackles have to do both more often than centers.

But you'll never get consistent pressure up the middle because centers are uncovered a lot and often 3 vs 2.
