I know there is a lot of talk that Smith is nothing more than a check down QB, however these stats bear out otherwise. Most of these stats are quite close with one exception, Smith turned the ball over about half the time Palmer did. I for one would not mind seeing Smith in Cardinal red and then looking to draft a QB every year or every other year for the next few years.
I'm uneasy about the A Smith / Andy Reid connection.

We haven't had much luck with Reid players.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics. Put the game on his shoulders, and he wilts. In the regular season, with a solid defense and running game to carry him, he doesn't have to take any risks or do any of the heavy lifting, leading to falsely promising 'stats'. Don't be deceived by them.

We need a poll. It seems no matter what names are mentioned 50% of the board screams he sucks.
Kirk Cousins ( Like him but too much $$)
Alex Smith (have to trade for)
Teddy Bridgewater (FA)
Casey Keenum (FA)
Sam Bradford (FA)
Tyrod Taylor ( have to trade for or wait to get cut)
Nick Foles ( have to trade for)
Drew Stanton ( please dear Jesus no)
Blaine Gabbert ( not as my starter)

We need a QB before the draft. A power running game and sprinkle in a wr or 2 with a little better defense will make most of the above adequate. Of course the o-line needs a little tweaking, additions and/or coaching up.

As Coach Wilks has said, "The elephant in the room." Until this dilemma is solved we're all going to feel a bit uneasy.

Yeah, good point on the divisiveness in opinion. I'd take Cousins as a cheaper bridge QB, but wouldn't approach half of the $$$ it'll take to get him. Smith, were he a FA and bargain-basement cheap would...serve...as a bridge QB. Same with Taylor, but I'd really only want him if we have our sights on the mobile Louisville QB.

Bottom line is that Keim and co. have left the team in a really crappy place regarding the most important position on the team. The failure to secure the future of the position is a glaring one, and something that needs remedied forthwith, THIS season. Sure, it sucks, and will be difficult, but he caused it, so now he can go and fix it. That's why he gets paid the big bucks :)

Former Cardinal QB'sOTF - Kelly Stouffer, Matt Leinart... I don't see Keim "reaching" (See Bears for Trubinsky at this point) for a mediocre talented QB over "best player available" - personally none of the above QB's do a thing for me, but neither did Kurt Warner or Carson Palmer. We all know Steve Keim has a plan in place so everything we're speculating about will be moot possibly before the draft!

Not a huge fan of it but I know he'd be a bridge. Hopefully we draft a QBOTF to take his spot once he inevitably gets injured.

NO no no 1000 times no Bradford

By the way, we don't have an OC so how can we say Smith is a good Cardinal fit??

Either would be fine with me as long as we draft a QB in the first round to groom for the future. Bradford has a load of talent he just can't stay healthy.

If a pass rusher causes too much of a breeze near Bradford he will end up injured.

I have a name to throw out that no one has probably given any thought to. DeShone Kizer

Here is really young kid who was thrown into the fire with no mentor, a horrible play calling head coach, no weapons to speak of, and no time to learn the system, much less learn to play in the NFL. And the team, as well as the fans, hate him it seems and have no desire to give him a decent chance of becoming an NFL Qb. He had a miserable rookie year, but who wouldn't have under those conditions. Horrible no win situation for the kid. Yes, he looked horrible a lot of the times, lead league in interceptions with 22. But heck, other great QBs had worse 1st years, ie Peyton Manning had 28 interceptions his first year.

Browns have totally given up on the kid. I would like to see a team with a good QB coach, starting qb to mentor him, and time to develop give him a fair and decent shot to see if he could succeed. I'm sure he could be had for a 4th round pick or there abouts to be a backup and learn how to be a successful starter one day.

Andy Reid that lead a team to what was it...five NFC Championships?..wait no...it was FOUR straight NFC Championship games, and a Super Bowl...

yeah,.. Andy Reid is clearly the problem in KC

He was saying that Reid is the reason for Smiths success & why he is playing better than when he was on the 9ers.

okay...looked to me like he was saying reid was the reason Smith has never produced a playoff win even with a running game, a great WR and a solid defense.... you know...with that comment about Smith being an upgrade over Palmer and all that.

A) Kizer is no bueno B) Browns spent a 2nd on him last year...no way they trade him, and C) He's just no bueno.

By what measure are you declaring that KC defense "solid"? They were trash this year.
