You know why I don't do it? Shaq has been the most consistent player on this team the entire season and thats fact, my bias isn't a factor in that.

I firmly believe you have Gentry from the beginning with a healthy core of Nash, Stoudemire and O'Neal with good complementary players and this team is right back in the thick of things in the West.

Resign Hill, don't bring back Barnes, keep Richardson, Barbosa, Amundson, Dudley.

Draft a good defensive minded player and let things play out.

If all this fails, Nash and Shaq are both off the books soon...
We don't want to be right back into losing in the playoffs we want to win.

Andrew,
You have to factor in what the Suns want to accomplish.
They want to go back to the SSOL style offense. Last year with O'Neal playing the "big" rebounder in the middle Stoudemire averaged 30 ppg. Because O'Neal focused on being a finisher and a rebounder rather than the target inside. Stoudemire became the role player. Suns also was much better that time.

Chandler pretty much fits in with that system, just like Marion. But I'm not sure if Hornets will do it.

A healthy Chandler is the perfect compliment to Amare. They are both great at what the other lacks.

I hope this gets done.

The thing is, we haven't seen what a healthy unit can do out there for an entire season, that is all I am saying.

They were healthy together long enough to show that they couldn't beat a top team or defend anyone. One shouldn't need an entire season to figure that out.

Shaq isn't going to win a championship with the Suns.

The sooner you realize that the better.

The thing is defense and in all the exit interviews, everyone mentioned their defensive lax and how they need to improve.

It's not a question if they can't play defense, they HAVEN'T yet...

Andrew is a kid and you guys should not be so harsh on him. Let me get this straight for him.

I am a Shaq fan, so I don't pretend to love the Suns more. I have no influence in FO of the Suns, so I don't pretend to care what decision they will make. If Shaq and the Suns stick together, I'll stand by the Suns, and the Suns only among 30 NBA teams in NBA, give them all my support hoping them to win a championship.

For me, personally, the pity Suns has just wasted a golden season of Shaq by mis-management and ego issue of core players. I wish Shaq plays for another team next season because I have no more faith in Nash or Amare, Sarver or Kerr.

There a few fans like me and Andrew, we came here with Shaq, we'll be gone with him. May there be peace between us and local fans? If not, just fine, you won't see me post much any way.

Im pretty much for any deal that revolves around Shaq for Chandler, I think Chandler would be a great fit for Amare up front. If we could get Chandler and Peja that would be great, we could play Peja at the 3 and score a zillion a game. The only problem would be Nash+Peja+Jrich would be awful defensively.

Though I dont see anyway we can yank a 2010 pick from them, we do need to scrounge one up somewhere.

How many freaking times have we heard DEFENSE? From Amare, the Coach, Shaq, Nash......we hear "we've got to step up the D." and in all honesty, its gotten worse.

My opinion.....this team either CAN'T, or doesnt want to.....and nothings going to change it. Most of the players are either incapable of playing anything resembling decent D, or dont feel that it is important enough to waste any energy doing it.

I could live with waiting for a radical rebuild a little longer if we trade Shaq and Tucker for Chandler, one of the three filler guys and #21 and maybe a future pick depending on how long the filler contract is.

But that can't be our only move, minus Barnes and Swift, we would be at 11 players and two first round draft picks.
That probably means we will sell our picks for money and future picks again or use them to move up for a single pick, if we don't make room for them to be on the active roster.

Especially if we win the lottery with our pick anyway and move in the top 3 to guarantuee us Rubio, Wall or Jennings if all come out. In 20 tries I ended up at #3 two times getting Thabeet in ESPN's lottery simulator.

slin,

If the SUNS ever get a top 3 pick this up coming draft, I'll run naked around my street. I dont like to run naked... especially in winter.

But I will, because I know the chances are very slim, if not none.

Suns will need to trade a star to get into that range, if a team offers a top 3 pick for JRich and Suns pick, I do it. If they offer a top 3 pick for Stoudemire, I'd think about it. If those players you mentioned are there at pick 2 or 3, I'd move Stoudemire and call the season a farewell to Nash and O'Neal.

We are a lock to the top 3 if we don't get the 14th pick. I believe we have 2.5% chance to hit the top 3, 0.5% chance to win the lottery. Quite impossible that we don't get the 14th pick.

EDIT: Found the real odds, 0.5% chance at the 1st pick, a 0.59% chance at the 2nd pick and a .72% chance at the 3rd pick.

new orleans got slapped around by the nuggets I can see them trading chandler and posey to improve in the post because they have no post game right now plus they are already one of the slowest teams in the league shaq would fit right in. This trade is good for both teams to be honest. Then we would just need to trade J-rich for a defensive guard or for a pick.

In a van...down by the river.
If Nash,JRich,Barbosa and Dragic remain our backcourt rotation next year the defense will not improve.
If Amare returns with these guys i mentioned above the defense will not improve.
If Shaq returns with Amare and the guys i mentioned above the defense will not improve.
If Gentry returns to coach all the guys mentioned above the defense will not improve.
If the defense doesn't improve, neither will this teams chances of winning anything important anytime soon. Scoring a zillion points ain't gonna get it done.
Kerr has admitted to failing with the Porter hire,so now he's got a chance to do the right thing(IMO) and gut this team to the core and try to build something around a philosophy. Looks like Sarver has got different ideas.....so we're going to be subjected to a product that is old on a few levels.....
Old as in old men trying to outrun their opponents for 82 games....and
Old as in same old same old philosophy.
I'm getting old too,as in drinking my cynical juice:bang:.
Keep Amare, ask him to score 40 pts a night. Reevaluate his future next year.
Ask Barbosa to score 40 pts a night.
Ask Duds to become a defensive stopper and let him get some touches.
Tell Dragic that for now this is his team to lead...feed Amare and Barbs and shut down the man in front of you.
Tell Amundsen to get 10 boards a night and go for the shot blocking record....and get his FT% up to 70%.
Trade Nash, trade Shaq and trade JRich for whatever you can get before it's too late. Expirings, young blood,picks...whatever.
Try to stop people and bring in other guys that can stop people.
Try to make the playoffs as an 8th seed next year, tell OKC to ****off and give our youngins some experience.

Routed by Denver in game 1, domnated inside, 5-5 production from Chandler, I think NO GM, Paul, and their coach, would definitely love to see Shaq take the place.

Paul is probably the best defensive PG, league leader in steals with 2.77 per game, second place is in a distance, 2.19 (Wade). They won't need Shaq to come out to defend pick & roll. It should work well for them. So, let's make it happen.

The only question is, are you sure you want Chandler? ... God helps the Suns.

Chris Paul is a good defender, but he isnt elite, just because he leads the league in steals. "going for steals" actually helps the offense, it opens up gaps.
He's a good defender, but its a bit too much to call him best defensive point guard.

Gary Payton back in the days, lead the league in steals, but he stayed in front of his man and his 6'4 height allowed him to contest passes and shots... Jason Kidd too. When you say "best perimeter" defenders usually they are players who are 6'4+ as they have great length and range to alter shots, also have quick enough feet etc.. Jordan comes to mind also... but he is SG.
Chris Paul is pesty and quick, but he bigger guards can shoot on him. With that said, he is still the leagues best pg and one of my faves... just not "the best defensive" pg.

NO!

Jason Kidd are you kidding me? He only got reputation for defense because he was big enough to guard shooting guards.

His defense on quick PGs was never any good.

Rajon Rondo is 6'1...
