Well he's definately the SUNS MVP...no question about that.
If he wasn't sitting out games he'd deserve a few votes for league MVP IMO.
LeBron is clearly the MVP.

If there is such a thing as a "Veteran's MVP", he is definitely the clear winner .
But his performance so far this season is incredible and if (as mentioned earlier) he is not sitting out back-to-back he deserves to be in the mix.

Let me preface this by saying, Shaq is having an outstanding year! Very surprising to me but I admit he has done a tremendous job. So for all you guys who know i don't like him the following comment has nothing to do with my view as him as a person.

The season is not even half over yet for one so we have no idea about the final standings, fatigue, injuries etc. With that in mind, as it stands right now, regardless of sitting out back to backs which is a valid point, MVP's are rarely if ever chosen off a team that is one game in the loss column from being out of the playoffs. If that was the case, your boy Nash's trophy case would be empty.

Nice try(and fail) at your attempt to be objective & diplomatic.
Kobe has always been his own favorite MVP.
No one...i repeat NO ONE made the players around him better than Nash did during his MVP run and IMO thats what an MVP is.
The true definition of the MVP award is vague at best.
My interpretation is:
A dominant player that can elevate his team & teammates far beyond their capabilities otherwise.
Kobe has always been mega-dominant(LOL), but as far as elevating his teammates and making them better? I'm not so sure.

And even if your intrepretation was "THE" interpretation... you fail. Does not the quality of the players that surroud you have an effect. I don't care how much you try to elevate your teamates beyond their capabilities, if they don't produce, there is nothing you can do. Kobe has proven the last two years that indeed with a better quality of teamates he is more than willing to get them more involved. ie. no matter how many great passes you may make.... if the player misses the shot... their is no assist. And once again, you miss the point of my original post. It was to say that MVP are rarely chosen from teams that are low in the rankings. Clearly as of today there are 3 contenders for the MVP. LBJ, Kobe, and Wade. As of today I actually think Wade is playing the best basketball. He did in the olympics as well. He will not get the MVP because Miami is not a real contender. It will be between LBJ and Kobe if things go as they have until now. Both are playing team ball and bring a different set of skills to the table. LBJ is more powerful and dominant. Kobe has a larger skill set and closes out games better. The slight nod at this point is to LBJ IMO. If either team pulls away in the reccord race, that player will win. Again, this is all subjective and assuing the same trend as of today. I think Nash's first MVP could have gone either way between him and Kobe. Nash got it because he was on a contending team and Kobe was not. The second one is ridiculous and many other than me has said so. Even your adorable Shactus chimed in on that one and we all know what his opinion of Kobe is. Kobe had a far greater year but the team again was not a contender. The mere fact that you brought up Kobe's name when I made no mention of it says it all.

Again, my point was, MVP's are rarely if ever chosen from a team that don't or barely make the playoffs. And the thread was about Shaq being MVP... not that Kobe wasn't.

Sure! No problem... let me see... I'll choose the window I can "eye the prize" through. I guess I'll jump through the LARGE Laker one on my left as opposed to the teeny weeny Suns one on the right. :D

ya thats fine. just make sure its more than 10 stories up so the outcome's definitive.

There are so many ways how to evaluate who deserves the MVP. However, I will say the Suns would probably be a lottery team without him.

I totally agree. I personally think a mid level team can and should be able to have a player in the MVP consideration. It just doesnt happen that way, right or wrong. It is all so subjective and an endless discussion that will never be resolved.

i think there is no argument shaq is this team's mvp. however, there is little chance he will be getting any mvp votes at the end of the year.

If a team of the suns' caliber was going to have the mvp on its team, it would be Wade on the heat. However, the mvp is almost always awarded to the best player on a top 3 team. LeBron is almost certainly going to get it this year. Howard will probably get a whole lot of votes too. Same for Kobe.

Without him and his 20 million dollars? ;)

I think we could make due replacing the roster with his salary space, the suns arent bad enough to need a 20million dollar center to be playoff bound.

Even I'm a long term Shaq fan, I dont like this. It is extremely bad for team chemistry to over-praise an individual.

There is only 1 purpose for Shaq to be in Phoenix: A Championship.

Honestly, I never could dream Shaq could return to such a good form. But if he could keep this up in May, I think this Suns has some real chance at the title.

Shaq's a better option of scoring than Amare. He has some ridiculously good looking moves in the paint. No one in the league can guard him, he made Eric Dampier look like a PG in terms of size and strength. If we play like we have been, we'll be fine. We need to work on 3 point defense, free throws, and turnovers (even though we look more fluid now than when the season started).

Shaq's been playing much better than expected but he's not even close to being an MVP candidate. I'll be surprised if he gets any votes even if he continues at his current pace through out the season. Guys like Lebron, Wade, CP3 and Howard are playing on a whole different level.

The Cardinals have been awesome since they shut down the run. The defensive backs are eating opposing receivers alive. Just two more games.

And Shaq is back.

Andrew, this is good stuff.

I seriously doubt Shaq could win MVP at this stage of his career. However, I will say even the die hard Laker fans are now coming around to Shaq. Their bitterness of not winning jack since Shaq left still stings.

that's a serious stretch. they are hardly in the playoffs as it is. i can't see them beating new orleans, L.A, or San Antonio just to get to the finals.

Hmmmmmmmmmm We are 29-6 and arguably the best team in the west and favorites to win the title without him. Your team is 21-13 and a half game from being out of the playoffs with him. Granted, he has had a great first half of the season, but lets see how that holds up. Now that he's your MVP... if you falter... MARK MY WORDS... you will see the whiney bitchy Shaq that caused nothing but dissention with his last 2 teams. Nope... not feeling the sting at all. :D
