Well, that was obviously on the way. I've been expecting it since the season ended.

Good that they gave him the time to latch on to another team.

The Texans will probably take him.
Texans or the Broncos are a definite possibility. I'd lean towards the Broncos because they really don't have a clear-cut favorite in camp right now.

I'm really surprised they haven't had Alexander in Dove Valley for a look-see. Maybe he's asking for too much.

The coaches like Steve Baylark...the younger UMass grad who is very Marcel Shipp-esque...and Baylark is eligible for another year on the practice squad.

Shipp had to see this coming. Baylark took way more snaps than him over the weekend and looked good.

Why do you doubt that. Shipp was making a lot of money for essentially a special teams player. By cutting Shipp the team saves 1.75 million towards the cap. Sometimes these decisions come down to $$$. I'm sure they cut him early so he would have a chance to get on with another team. I hope he does.
Not only what he said...

Additionally, Hightower fits more the same style of RB as Shipp, than Arrington. It makes more sense to keep Arrington whose abilities are not duplicated by Hightower, than Shipp.

Best of luck to Marcel Shipp! :raccoon:

Another reason he was released:

The Cardinals needed to create roster room after signing center Jasper Harvey. Harvey, 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, spent the 2007 season on Philadelphia’s practice squad and recently played the 2008 Arena Football League season in Orlando.

Good Luck Shipp. I'll just agree with what Whisenhunt said about him today:
“To me, when you talk about good pros, when you talk about good teammates, Marcel is at the top of the list on both of those.”

High character player who fought back through a very tough ankle injury. Ran hard and scraped for every inch. First class person. In my book, a winner.

It's good, though, the Cardinals are giving him time to catch on with another team. The Texans have always been interested in him, perhaps they will give him a chance.

Didn't we reject an offer last year for a 5th round pick for Shipp?

Cards are now very thin at RB. Perhaps they will pick someone up.
There are still 4 Rb's on the roster: Edge, JJ, Hightower, and Baylark. They will only keep three on the 53 man roster; so not really.

Coincedentally, I briefly spoke to Steve Baylark following practice this past Friday. I asked him how camp was going. His reply was, "Good, it is so much better the 2nd year", 'than as a rookie! This year he is more comfortable, knows what to expect, etc. Way better than last year.'

There was a "give-away" that this was coming, by Haley's interview with Jurecki this morning.

As reported by joeshmo:
Question – Run Game?
Answer – Will be using Zone and power run blocking schemes. Talked about second level needs to be better blocked, all of the WR’s need to block better, all of the TE’s need to block better and so on. Arrington is a different runner this year – he brought up that he is hitting the hole faster then ever and so on. Edge is doing things he hasn’t seen him do before in a good way, likes Hightower. Cany wait to see Hightower and JJ when the hitting is for real.
No mention of Shipp...

It was a 6th from the Texans I believe. Said it then it was a mistake not to take the deal and still think so today. Could have used that money to tie up our OL depth with Vincent or help to sign that LB they wanted in Chillar. We ended up barly using Shipp last year and JJ got more of the plays on offense anyways. But hindsight is 20-20. Shipp was a warrior just not a 1.75 Mill one.

Depending on what the other plethora of RB's on the market are looking for it may be harder for Shipp to find a job, but then again if he takes a vet min deal he might get picked up faster.

What I doubted was the 1.75 was for Boldin.

Good to hear although every year I'm convinced JJ has turned the corner but his playing time suggests they don't believe he has. I hope this year that he has as good as Edge is it would be nice to have a RB who can actually take a play longer than 8 yards when the hole is there. Edge moves the chains so to speak but even the hugest of holes might not get you 20 yards he just doesn't have teh explosion.

If JJ really can hit the holes faster and run with more authority he has a chance to get 5-8 carries for us in relief and changeup and really help this team.

Shipp's a great guy always has been but he made too much money for what his role on the team was. Shouldn't be too hard to find someone who can block better on punts too.

Had to happen, but it still bums me out... Shipp was a model for all other pro athletes...

He had two very good years in '02 & '03, and then came the ugly, tragic injury in camp in '04... Players still talk about the sound of that injury and of hearing Shipp screaming... What a shame... damm turf!

The front office is trying to redo Q's contract and an extra 1.75 million is a step in the right direction.

It could be for many different players. More Front loading for a new Wilson contract, A. Smith is an UFA next year, a few others that will be UFA next year, and so on.

I dont think the Boldin anger has boiled over yet. Drew just put out a video blog just a few days ago and brought up the same stuff that Boldin stated again. Still to fresh.

Agreed. The Texans will probably take him.

I doubt it. They have Ahman Green, Chris Brown (Former Titan) and rookie Steve Slayton in camp. And they signed Mike Bell from Denver a couple days ago. I'm not sure why they'd want a used up RB to come in with his 3.2 YPC career average.

EDIT: Oop--unless they want someone to come in and allow blocked punts.

You're right it could go for other players but I've always thought the team was waiting to release Shipp and redo Warner's contract before they made Q a real offer.
