It was too bad to see him go :( but it was expected because of his salary and that he was similar to Hightower.

I can understand why they cut Marcel, and I guess the team is acting with class by cutting him early enough to catch on somewhere else.

But we really do lack unproven quality depth at RB.

Should (God forbid) Edge go down, it will be up to JJ, Baylark or Hightower to step up. Conceding that Hightower may turn out to be the guy, we shouldn't ignore the fact that he hasn't played a down yet.

And, as we've seen in previous years at center and D-line, all you have to do is blink, and injuries can go thru a position like herpes in a **********.

Sad to see Marcel go, he always gave 110%. I was at the TC scrimmage where he got hurt , great that he could come back after that injury. He's always a Cardinal in my book.

Actually, Jeff, Arrington has a superior YPC average (3.1) over the last three seasons than Marcel Shipp (2.4). This is Arrington's 4th season in the NFL; he's more proven than Shipp at this point.

We have two fullbacks on the active roster who will be able to perform in those short-yardage situations.

He wasn't the best running back we ever saw, but he was a tough runner and did what he could for the Cardinals. All you haters don't seem to understand the importance of guys like him on the team. I'm sad to see him go. Good Luck Marcell.

I disagree I think we all get that he's a great guy and a good clubhouse influence. The problem is he hasn't been a very good RB in a few years and the Cards were paying him as if he was. I too hope he hooks on somewhere and continues to be a good guy.

For example I remember after the Washington game where JJ took a dive under Sean Taylor and was getting crucified, one of the Washington papers did a story where they said in the lockerroom after the game Cardinal players were refusing to talk to JJ and one player pointed at JJ and then pointed at his chest and said "no heart." The story insinuated that player was Marcel Shipp. I asked Darren Urban about it since he'd written about the comment in his story and he adamantly said that was not Marcel Shipp, it wasnt' even a player it was someone else.

He was angry enough that he asked me for the link to the story so he could contact the reporter and tell him you need to print a correction you owe Shipp an apology. He even said after that game Shipp was counseling JJ look you made a mistake you gotta keep your head up and go forward and learn from it. I remember at the time thinking what a class act that was since it was obvious that JJ was taking carries away from Shipp and it would have been quite easy for Marcel to just throw JJ under the bus there instead of actually trying to help him.

But in the end Marcel was part of a team that lost a lot more than it won and you don't pay players his type of salary to be good teammates, you need them to produce on the field and since his injury he's just not the same guy.

It's a part of the NFL you either produce or get replaced, the only way around it is reduce your salary.

Best of luck to Marcel man. He played his rear off for some pretty abysmal years. Class all the way.

That is a bit of a skewed stat you point to. Shipp was not given near the carries JJ was. And just like any RB will tell you, the more carries the better thier runs will be.

Doesnt that say something about Shipps running ability though? That the coaches would rather run JJ then Shipp.

Plus neither guy got nearly enough carries to get into a rythm so they were on equal playing field in that regard.

I am not arguing what the coaches think or thought of Shipp. That speaks for itself, he is unemployed.

All I am saying is when you quote an average in general you like to have similar attempts. Fact is Shipp was given less carries than JJ and if my memory serves me right the situations were quiet different. Goal line or Redzone running is by nature not going to produce large numbers in an average.

My opinion is that Shipp is the better RB between him and JJ. But the teams needs JJ's speed and his age much more than they need a bruiser and older player in Shipp. I doubt you will ever hear of a coach on this team say Shipp was just not NFL caliber or even a good RB. But with the teams needs and cap in mind he was probably the better choice for the team to cut at this time.
