I was in the stands in the Skydome that day.
I could hear that snap and the screams from 100 ft away.
That he came back from having his foot turned around backwards is a testament to his resiliency.
I appreciate him as a person enough to hope he gets on with another team.
Hopefully in the other conference.

Had to happen, but it still bums me out... Shipp was a model for all other pro athletes...

He had two very good years in '02 & '03, and then came the ugly, tragic injury in camp in '04... Players still talk about the sound of that injury and of hearing Shipp screaming... What a shame... damm turf!

Exactly how I feel. The guy brought it every day and I still have fond memories of some of those bust out runs he had at a time nobody else seemed to make it past the line of scrimmage.

He slowed the past couple of seasons, no question... but I believe he still can add value to some team at a lower cost. It doesn't sound like the Cards tried to work his deal down though... his agent said Marcel didn't see it coming.

I doubt it. They have Ahman Green, Chris Brown (Former Titan) and rookie Steve Slayton in camp. And they signed Mike Bell from Denver a couple days ago. I'm not sure why they'd want a used up RB to come in with his 3.2 YPC career average.

EDIT: Oop--unless they want someone to come in and allow blocked punts.

K9 is that you?

Nah, couldn't be...

Hate to see him go. I always thought he was underappreciated by some here on the board. That said...

Although I neglected to post this in my camp updates, this move really doesn't surprise me. Watching him run next to Hightower, there was no comparison. Shipp really did look two steps slower that the rook. I couldn't see the Cards keeping him over JJ for obvious reason stated in this thread.

A necessary move by the front office, IMO.

:D

The team is better without him. I think he'd be an interesting fit with a team like Buffalo, or the New Jersey Jets, maybe Carolina, where they're working in some younger/less experienced backs.

You'll never be able to fault Marcel Shipp for not trying as hard as he could every down. He justifiably made a lot of fans. But he just wasn't very good. If you put Marcel Shipp's heart in the body of a guy like Cedric Benson or Ricky Williams, there's no question that that player would have had a ceiling without limit.

Damn! Shipp is one of the most genuine players I have met. Everytime he was on the field I got excited. Not because he was gonna bust a huge run off, but just because you knew it was usually gonna be pretty brutal if he got the ball. I will miss seeing Shipp on this team. I am pretty confindent he will be picked up by another team pretty fast. Good luck Marcel !

True class individual all the way. Necessary move. But still sad to see him gone.

High character player who fought back through a very tough ankle injury. Ran hard and scraped for every inch. First class person. In my book, a winner.

It's good, though, the Cardinals are giving him time to catch on with another team. The Texans have always been interested in him, perhaps they will give him a chance.

:yeahthat:

Best of luck to you, Marcel!

Nonsense. You'd just have a guy who took a few tokes and then ran as hard as he could at a 45 degree angle carrying a Plasma TV until he fell down.

So was I Andy, sitting in the front row directly in line with where he went down. I can still hear his screams today and remember seeing his foot facing to the back. I don't know how he managed to come back from that.

Good luck Marcell. You'll always have a special place in my heart along with Stump Mitchell and Roy Green.

Wow. Sad loss. Always hate seeing a guy like that leave a team but his price tag was just too high. I wonder if they offered to restructure his deal to try and keep him?

Sad to see him leave. During the dark days, he gave us something to cheer for.

He wasn't the best running back we ever saw, but he was a tough runner and did what he could for the Cardinals. All you haters don't seem to understand the importance of guys like him on the team. I'm sad to see him go. Good Luck Marcell.

:biglaugh: That's the funniest thing I've read on this board in a long time!

It is a sad day when you lose a class act like Shipp. Thanks and good luck. He never really got a shot. But he just kept coming back.
