Should Ayton be Traded?

Draymond is one of the best playmaking bigs in NBA history, his passing is a huge part of their offense.

What does that have to do with anything? HE WAS NOT THE CENTER - LOONEY WAS!

I agree having a power forward that is a good passer and at least average offensively is preferable.

I'm saying we don't need a center that wants to take jump shots and get consistent post up opportunities like Ayton wants.

Looney was not their primary center, he and Draymond rarely shared the court and he virtually never played in the clutch. He only started getting regular playing time in 2022.

All I am saying is that you are dramatically underrating Draymond as an offensive player. He is really really good on both ends and he absolutely was their center.

Once again now on the eve of the draft, yes, we should trade him. The good news is, we now aren't desperate to trade him. We got our 3rd scorer. We've effectively replaced Ayton in that sense.

Now we're in a great position. Trade him for a valid 4th guy/depth. We shouldn't give him away, but we now can conceivably take a bit less.

But if we don't trade him, I will feel better since we got Beal.

I do expect them to entertain trade offers, but I have a strong feeling that if they can get him to commit to playing the Vogel way (apparently focusing on d, rebounds, and putbacks), they might give him 1/2-1 year before selling low. Even if he just improves somewhat, he'll only have two seasons left and might garner more value then.

At any rate, Beal makes whatever we do with Ayton much more palatable. I just am starting to think unless we get the specific people we're targeting players/draft/both, we're going to give him one last shot to salvage him. If so, I hope it works, I just don't think it's a high likelihood.

I am really curious if the suns already know of some players that might be willing to sign with them for the minimum if they can’t get a better deal elsewhere.

Late to the party but Adams has been the guy I wanted the Warriors to get for a couple of years now because they need more size. He's pretty injury prone now might be too late but I see him as a bit like Bogut who fit the Warriors perfectly because he was an elite screener(many illegal) and he was a great passer. Adams is a better screener, not quite the passer Bogut was but would be perfect on the Warriors and presumably the Suns. He's just so big and strong that he gets guys wide open on screens.

Draymond played quite a bit of 5, this year he and Looney kind of split the position they started playing together more in the playoffs because they were just too small with only one of them on the floor. Poole kind of got benched and Looney started. There's still a lo of people who think he winds up back on the Warriors. He apparently wants 100 million but it's seen as unlikely anybody will pay it unless LeBron convinces the Lakers to do so.

The Warriors can't give him that much but if he checks the market, realizes he can't get that much, then the pull to finish up with Steph and Klay will probably bring him back.

I don’t like this as there’s barely enough to go around for three guys let alone Harris who I think is the most ball dominant of the four. He needs the ball in his hands more than Book and KD, are we really going to get KD then get another guy that detracts from what KD and Book bring to the table.

Beal is a poor man's Booker so if one is out, we got the other.

PG is a poor man's KD so the same applies there.

If all 4 are healthy, a lineup of Book, Beal, PG, KD, and Frank The Tank is like Team USA levels of dominant.

I agree with much of this but not your conclusions.

Ayton has value on the court even though he is clearly overpaid. We're better off without him IF we could then use his cap money, but we cannot. And we're better off without him if we can trade him for two players that are each actually worth roughly half of DA's salary, but we apparently cannot. So we're stuck with the player until, at a minimum, we can get nearly as much by trading him as we can get by playing him.

You will be hard pressed to find many here that are not fully aware of Ayton’s issues or his contract. Trust me, most of us have been on it for years. Heck some here were against his contract extension.

Most of us just don’t want the team to get rid of him…”period”….without something in return that the Suns can use because that would make us worse not better. Simply getting rid of his contract, say for assets and guys you are just going to waive will not allow us to fill out the bench with high quality guys.

There with you on the contract and Ayton’s issues.
