With no immediate needs outside of the offensive line and perhaps the secondary, should we trade with Denver for their 2 1st rounders?

Nope. This draft probably only has 10-12 elite players, why trade down and miss out on one of those guys?

Makes logical sense (and works out fairly closely on the Draft Value chart). But it's too early to rush to judgment. We don't know who might fall to us at #10 on draft day. And we don't know if Denver has any reason to trade two later picks in order to jump to #10.

Best thing we can do is wait til draft day and see what materializes. For example:

If Ferguson, Hawk or Young (many would include Vern Davis) were available at #10, I'd keep the pick because I think any of them could help us more than two guys we could pick later (Kind of a Suggs vs. Pace/Johnson value judgment).

If all of them were gone and Denver wanted to deal up, I'd probably do the deal, but would probably want to conduct several alternative mocks to better gauge the probabilites that specific players would be available at #22 and #29 (and whether there were acceptable fall-back picks should the guys we want be gone).

Guys I'd consider targeting with those two picks would include: Mangold, Marcus McNeal, Jean-Gilles Carpenter, Bunkley, Lutui, Watson (and if some of the higher rated players like Greenway, Huff or Jimmy Williams somehow fell down to #22 or #29, they'd have to be considered also).

i certainly think that this year's draft is better than '03, but I'd rather stand pat and get an elite player at 10.

I think 10-12 elite players is a little high. I would say 7 or 8. If one of top players slips to the #10 spot we should take him. Otherwise, tried down and pick up an extra up extra second round pick.

How about we keep #10 and move up from round 2 to the bottom of round 1 like we evidently tried to do to get Gamble. What does the value chart say about moving up to around pick #24?

No, i hate trading down. Especially if you're trading down that far from a top 10 pick. There's too many variables to think a player you're targeting will be there. When they did the dreaded trade down with the Saints they had Jerome McDougal as their target and Philly traded up in front of them to nab him.Sit at 10 and choose from Huff, Hawk, Davis,Justice, or Jimmy Williams.

I agree - this will be the last yr. we have a high draft choice (hopefully) for some time. Lets make it a good one.

I'm on for Young or Cutler, Justice or Huff.

If we do trade down we should use picks 22 and 29 to grab starters for the line. In the second we could take maybe take Klopfenstein or Fassano (whichever we feel can play now and has better upside). And why not take a crack at Bodie Croyle in the third to be a backup and learn behind Warner?

I like Pope around 22. But I think we'll keep the pick. Denver probobly likes having two 1sts and they need a WR. There are none at the top. If we'd have landed Randle-El we probobly could have moved BJ to them, but as of now that's not happening.

Denver is talking about trying to get Abraham anyway so they may not have 2 first rounders by the time draft day comes around.

I don't think trading down is a great idea. If we really want a rookie OL there is a great chance one projected to go in round 1 will fall to us in round 2. Last year some people had Elton Brown as a first round projection and he fell all the way to round 4.

With good reason. He has alot of rough edges. He won't probobly start off this yr. as a starter. Most passed on him for a reason. He lacks technique.Hopefully the new line coach will be able to help him out.

Quick question:

If all 3 qb's, Bush, and Davis, huff, and hawk are all off the board @ 10, do we still draft Lendale White?

It seems we may lose Shipp and Edge will probably finish his career with the Cards, so should we still draft White for future tandem with JJ or for JJ insurance?

I would be inclined to say, "Yes."

If we drafted Lendale I would vomit.

If they trade down for 2 picks they could take Bryant Johnson and Calvin Pace.

I don't think Denver would do the trade anyways due to the fact that they will probably be sending a 1st rounder to the Jets for Abraham.

IMO Green would never trade down as his story on draft day reads BPA. This year we will take the highest player ranked on our board when the ticker starts for our pick. If this rings true look at the top ten to twelve players and eliminate the sure shots on top like the Brick, Lienart etc. You could pretty much nail it.DAvis, AJ , young could be there to be picked at ten.

Green stated in his first Cardinals draft that he would never trade out of the top 10 as you would miss the chance to land a blue chip player. If I remember correctly, he also wouldn't move up if he was already in the top 10.

I'd be willing to swap our 2nd and 3rd round picks for their 2nd and 3rd round picks for their first pick.

I'd also give them the choice of B. Johnson, M. Shipp or A. Bergen. Maybe all of them.

Of course this would have to be a draft day trade to see if we could land Vernon Davis.

With their pick I would hope to land Jimmy Williams.

Since my Lendle White horse has left the stable I would not be suprised to see the Cards take Davis at ten. With the success KC has had with Gonzalez I think our OC would love Davis.

I thought Dennis said he wanted to upgrade the LBs this year. With Edge signing I don't see us drafting Peterson.

I'd say we draft Hawk if he slides, but more likely Greenway.

I'm sure you meant signing Peterson. Not sure how much he'll cost. Denny mentioned adding to the secondary(in FA) and didn't say anything about LB this morning on ESPN.

The 2 guys Denny mentioned today on Cold Pizza were Hawk and Davis, specifically mentioning about how impressive a guy Davis' size could run so fast.

Greenway if we traded down 10 spots maybe. He had a terrible workout and I don't think he was ever really a top 10 guy to begin with.

IF we trade with Denver....I'd like to see the picks be Ernie Sims and Mangold. I personally am not huge on Sims....but DG is big on FSU guys.
