Knicks were 10 games above .500 last season when Payton started. Does that count?
No, they got rid of him as quick as they could, and all he could get was a minimum contract.

I seriously don't know how anyone can watch that guy and think this is a player I want playing for my team. He cannot shoot, and is a bad ball distributor - which makes him a very bad point guard.

And the Knicks are doing great without Payton?

About the only thing I like about the Knicks is they drafted Miles McBride who I wanted the Suns to draft.

Payton is the third point guard on the team. He can run the team, play defense and has a career assist to turnover ratio of 6.0 to 2.3. I'm not sure what you expect from a guy on a minimum contract.

Bad players don't have an eight year NBA career.

Plenty of them have.

A player has to be elite to play in the NBA no matter what we think of their skills.
Of course if compared to an average Joe he is a great player, but in comparison to other NBA players (and that is who he is being compared to when he is being called bad) he is a bad player. At a minimum he is a well below average NBA player.

Right? Maybe he's a good locker room guy, but he isn't a good player on the court. Sometimes it takes a while for the NBA to come to what seems like an obvious conclusion to a lot of us.

So you don't think the NBA is a better evaluator of talent?

I think some players stick around for reasons other than being good on the floor. Being a good locker room guy and having a lot of friends around the league are a couple examples of why that can be.

Of course you have to have some value, but that value doesn't have to be that you are particularly good when you are actually playing in games. It's also possible that he just isn't fitting in with what this team likes to do as well as Jones assumed he would be.

I've read that Chris Paul had a huge influence on adding McGee and Payton.

Rockets are waiving Danuel House. He is a player that might help the Suns if healthy and they can make room.

I want to keep that empty roster spot for now.

he sure as heck is better than Hutchinson or wainright. I would sign him if we can.

The Suns could use another wing. His build is similar to Torrey Craig. With all the players out he might be in demand though.

I doubt if House would accept a two-way spot but if the Suns trade (example: Saric and Smith for Thad Young) it might work.

If the Suns were interested in House then they could have swapped Jalen Smith for him. The Rockets wouldn't lose anything in that deal since both are expiring and they're losing House anyway. Probably could have added a 2nd rounder as well. I doubt there's interest from us and am a little surprised they waived him since he's on a cheap expiring deal that a contender could have picked up fairly easy, he's due $3.7 million this year.

Well, seeing as he is waived we could just flat out claim him. I doubt anyone picks up that contract though, he will be free to sign with whoever wants him. I agree that I would take him over our current end of bench guys.

I'm not sure if we can claim him since he's making more than the league minimum. I thought you needed cap space to claim someone.

Elite compared to Joe Schmo. But that doesn’t make them a good basketball player by an NBA definition. Which is really all anyone here is talking about when talking about NBA players.

I value players on the end of the bench as you well know. It's something I learned going to training camps and watching summer league.
