Keim would have traded him for a conditional 7th, knowing the conditions would never be met.

Unbelievable. Still a joke of an organization. So basically got nothing for Hopkins and now Simmons.
I've been a supporter of Monti but I wouldnt have let either of them go.

You keep Hopkins because reestablishing Kyler's confidence should be priority #1. I dont care if its for 8 games.

You keep Simmons so that your defense has some more athleticism out there. He was brutal against KC. I didnt want to draft him. However, he's not a brutal player either. Injuries happen. He has been productive at times. Just keep him (if all you're getting is a 7th)

I've been one of the more optimistic people here but I'd like to have legit reasons to watch the games.

just noticed: a 2024 7th rounder

the Monti calculus went like this (i think):

Isiah won't be on the team after this year based on what we have seen --

and since the team declined his 5th year option, he wont figure into the compensatory pick formula, so...........
The next draft is in 2024. Were you thinking 2025?

Never used right. Could have been another Daryl Washington. When a player doesn’t read and react well you assign him to whatever so he doesn’t have to think. Like cover the back or cover the tight end or blitz the A gap. Putting him as a DB was stupid. I put this on coaching.
We would probably all put Reddick on coaching too. If Simmons somehow turns into a star... :bang:

After the Chefs game I expected him to be cut so this is sadly a win

Yeah I was dreading every time I opened ASFN, readying myself for the thread that said we cut him.

But a 7th, holy moly. It's pretty much also an apocalyptic ending. Trading him for a 7th is a nuclear option, very similar to cutting him.

Heartbreaking.

DHop and Simmons had no future on the team past this season, and either or both could have made the deciding play in a victory this year. Either a fumble punch out, interception, or miracle catch. I think Monti knew that, and understood that eating all the cap charges this year on a two-win team was better than the possibility of a 4 or 5 win team and less carry-over cap room.

If @DVontel assessment of Simmons is correct, though, it's not gonna happen for him.
I think Dvontel is clearly right about him at this point.

Simmons was in a contract year, so he didn't have any salary cap carryover in 2024.

Do you believe Monti is lying when he says the Arizona Cardinals are trying to win every game?

Monti cleaning up Keim's messes. Gets someone to pick up Simmons' salary and actually gets a pick for him. I'm guessing he would have been cut next week anyway.

Now I have six teams to root against this season.
Simmons' base salary is $1.01 million this year. It's nothing, even in a rollover.

BUT -- Michael cut him a check for nearly $2.5 million roster bonus three weeks ago. LOL!

Created $5.5 million in dead cap money to "save" $1 million.

Its not that Im even a Simmons fan. Its that Im sadly starting to believe Monti was just playing the media game. They want us to tank. Maybe they know Kyler isnt coming back anytime soon. Not that that means wins either, but eh whatever.

Basically this deal is to get rid of a potential distraction for the organization, and potentially give Simmons an opportunity to establish some value.
A crappy DB/LB/DE/Water boy is a distraction to the team? How mentally weak is this team if a guy who makes very few plays becomes a distraction?

Similar to dhop. They seem to be focused on saving cash but the bonus payment is dumb.
