K9, come on man. Don't you remember his rookie season? Him getting benched almost immediately in favor of a capable albeit journeyman LB in Hicks?

Now juxtapose that to PJJ and Beacham. Any chance the capable Beacham starts over Peanut Butter and Jelly this year? No. Simmons failed from the beginning, and has continued to under-perform for a 1st round pick. Even last year he's playing behind some really, really mediocre guys like Valijho and Neinman.

I wish the kid the best but his tenure in AZ is a spectacular failure, and that kind of failure is toxic. Give his snaps to someone who actually has a chance to improve. Him being the 3rd string Nickle back and half-assing it on special teams wouldn't help our team. It would just hurt the team more.

Both sides needed a fresh start. It's painful, but that's the way life is sometimes.
If I am invested in winning and growing Simmons as a player and contributor, I can play Simmons as a special teams player and sub package guy. That would have been the plan beginning in camp and let him grow from that. This is why I 100% believe this wasn't a snap decision like Monti said. The issue then becomes why did they let it drag out for so long? It isn't like a 7th round pick was them holding out on dealing him to get max value

Was excited about Simmons when drafted and then over time some warts started to appear in his game. Was it him, was VJ to blame for the inconsistency, not finding the right place for him. Sorry to see it fall apart but will quickly forget seeing someone else play that is in better position most of the time to make a play.

The bolded makes sense, but I guess the conclusion was that he didn't progress much at all in his first three years in the NFL (maybe regressed even), and there was little hope for him progressing even in the limited role you describe.

You have to think JG and Rallis desperately wanted to utilize all that physical talent, and they took a long look at him, but they just didn't see it happening.

The trade of Simmons virtually in the midst of a practice 1200 miles from home is known as a "Wakeup Call" to all the campers Notice that todays practice is a bit crisper than a sleepwalking session.

Its not that Im even a Simmons fan. Its that Im sadly starting to believe Monti was just playing the media game. They want us to tank. Maybe they know Kyler isnt coming back anytime soon. Not that that means wins either, but eh whatever.
I don't believe a word that either he or JG say. I know sports is filled with a lot of subterfuge for the sake of not spilling your hand, but these two are as untrustworthy as they come. I don't even think JG wants Kyler back. Both strike me as snake oil salesmen. I will maintain that position until I see a complete change in this team. JG with the "he's our guy" crap. Yeah, okay.

The idea that one of the worst teams in football last year needs a wake-up call in training camp doesn’t speak very highly about the players on this team or the coaches hired to prepare them for the season.

True cause people cant forget how hard they were selling the Simmons stuff. Makes the Kyler stuff seem a bit suspect now.

You know that part of building through the draft is retaining the players whom you've drafted for a second contract, right?

Yep - I was referring to trades.

Bottom line - we are blowing this thing up if you haven't noticed.
