Bartel needed exposure to our offense in case of emergencies. If God forbid Skelton gets hurt and Bartel has to play, he needs to be somewhat prepared as he wont be playing with the entire playbook.

Sure. But how does naming Skelton the starter right away interfere with Bartel getting reps and learning the playbook?

Oh yes, "the everyone must compete for their job" facade.

He started Skelton. Nothing here to make us go "hmmmmm"

With a frickin moron like DA, how sophisticated could the offense have been??

DA knew the offense just fine. Probably better than a certain guy that was in it for 4 years IMO. He just didnt have the talent to execute it. Not even close.

How did it hurt you that he didnt wait to name a starter till today? We all know the suspense was whether or not DA would pass his concussion test.

Of all things to p'd about this season, naming Skelton the starter on Friday is a problem??

It's the straw that broke the camel's back. Surely you can understand that?

It's so minor, and so freaking stupid that the fact that he DIDN'T do it until Friday makes my skin crawl. I understand major ef ups like rolling with DA in the first place. I don't understand being obtuse when your only options are a rookie who has had the playbook for months, has thrown to these guys in practices and knows them by sight, and actually completed passes in action a few days ago, or a backup guy from the UFL off the street with none of the above. How in the hell is there any decision to make? It's SILLY, but its a microcosm of a larger set of problems.

Yes it is meaningless...yes it is minor. However, I've been trying to not be super pissed at Whis for hemorrhaging his credibility all over the place this year and for some reason this minor act brought my anger at all the rest of the stuff out.

Sue me, lawyer mullit.

I think the delay in naming the starter had nothing to do with Bartel. He was using that as a smoke screen waiting to see if DA would be able to play.

I freaking HATE Belichek.

I like Whis. I don't like Belichekianism bouncing around Whis. It's always been there, but he's rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic and I can't stand it. How about just naming Skelton, and then lighting up DRC all week long? I tell you what, I'm far more concerned about DRC's lazy performance with Billy D's terrible scheming than Bartel feeling all cozy.

It is a microcosm of Whis talking a gang of stuff about competition and blather, but not with his precious Brob, or DRC, or Faneca, etc. It's only when it suits him.

Who says the fan base was pissed?

I guess I should have made it clear for the nitpickers that my post is my opinion. I'm sure you will agree that not all of the fan base is happy to have to wait all week for this announcement. I have also have never claimed to speak for the entire fan base.

Thats what I dont understand with your comment though. Not trying to nitpick really. Just that you did say "fan base" When can you ever get a fan base to agree on anything? :)

Why do you continue to listen to Whisenhunt? When teams lose/aren;t any good, the HC goes into coachspeak mode.

Maybe it is because I don't live in AZ, but I find it very easy to ignore Whiz.

Your access is no different in Chicago than anyone in AZ.

BTW Coach speak is worse than THESMEL speak.

Belicheck's arguably the greatest coach in NFL history. He can do whatever he wants because it ALWAYS works.

I've got no problem with what Donald's saying. Wiz continues to be unbelievably obtuse.

And with Skelton named QB, I officially have a reason to watch again this year.

If you want it you can have the same access. The difference is every paper we pick up or news hour that we watch or every sports talk show that we listen too is full of Chicagoans (Dan Bickley) questioning these moves.

My guess is that the majority of the fan base could care less. The rest are just petulant.

I never dreamed using the term "fan base" would be interpreted as a pronouncement of unanimity. In retrospect, I guess I should have said "a major portion of the fan base".

I think a major portion of the fan base hopes the ***************** never sets foot on the field in a Cardinal uniform again. Is that wrong?

With Hall unavailable the obvious choice to me was Skelton; why not give the kid a vote of confidence earlier in the week? It might have given some but not all Cardinal fans something to look forward to.

Objection your honor, conjecture.

You have no idea if that is correct or not and as such it is really unkind of you to post it.

I don't understand why this is being seen as a bad thing or Wiz being obtuse.

CAUSE: Wiz tells team and media that Bartel is going to compete with Skeleton for this Sunday's starting job

EFFECT: Skeleton busts his ass all week, coming in early and staying late (see Urbans blog) and working hard because even though all common sense says he will start, he knows that if he acts like the presumptive starter in practice all week, Whisenhunt will absolutely go to the other option (see Leenart, The Matt).

BYPRODUCT: Maybe a win on Sunday because the starting QB put in more elbow grease then he normally would have in preperation?

What you see as playing games, I see as good coaching and doing what you can to get the best out of a young player.
