I don't know who should start but I do know that the fact we're talking about starting our number 3 QB and people aren't immediately laughed off the board means the season has hit the crapper.

Its still the Hall show, we didn't waste a draft pick on Max. (sorta wasted a Leinart) Skelton would do just as poorly, and it wouldn't benefit him or the team right now. I don't like next years free agent QBs, and I don't think I will like where we end up in the draft.

Skelton can learn a lot right now doing what he is doing. I can see him getting some action later in the season if Hall doesn't mature out of manure.

(thx river)

Like thinking a guy from Eastern Illinois can't be a great NFL quarterback? Or a guy from Southern Mississippi? How about Alcorn State? Northern Iowa? What about a guy from Delaware? Vanderbilt?

There are a lot of reasons to believe that John Skelton isn't going to be a "great" NFL quarterback, but I'm not sure coming from Fordham is one of them. There are tons of unsuccessful QBs who come from major college programs.

Fordham is not even on the same planet with those schools. They lost to Assumption and Bryant this season! Comparing a Patriot league team to an SEC team is ridiculous. Heck even saying they're equal to Eastern Illinois is ridiculous.

forget it

forget fordham Skelton hjas been [paid by the Arizoina Cardinals for quite awhile now, off season, TC, Preseason and 7 weeks of reg season.

Nobody wants to give matty credit for 99 TDs, heisman or NCAAC's but FORDHAM rules Skelton's abilities.

He went 5-6 against Houstons scrubs, what do you want? He's a Cardinal and we need him, now!

Max Hall had the same time with the Cards and came from one of the premier passing schools in the NCAA and he's struggling terribly. Matt Leinart threw for 300+ yards in college on the biggest stage there is against a Texas secondary that now has 5 guys in the NFL. He had 3 years plus 7 weeks with the Cards. He's now 3rd string in Houston.

BTW: I know hundreds of former college QBs who could come in off the street and look good in a preseason game.

I agree, but what alternative did Whiz leave us? 7 weeks in DA and Hall have had their shot and have proven themselves, well lets just say inferior NFL QB's at the lowest level.

I feel Skelton could actually get better each week instead of worse each week. could be wrong but I have him graded equal with DA with upside and much better than Max Hall. I always have but I'm just a so and so, so what do I know?
Hall is a rookie who only had two starts. Give hime some time. Secondly, is that the same grading system you used to determine Matt Leinart is an elite NFL QB?

I read the CBS in depth draft evaluation criteria at each position, from the link at the start of this thread. grade current NFL players

I check scout.coms draftee or FA rankings to get a feel where a player fits in the NFL scheme of things.

Espn's draft scale 1-100 - I apply this scale to current veteran players because I have not found anything better, I'm open if you know something better?

look at the left hand side with elite being 90+
http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft

Some say Madden does 1-100 too but i never used that.

Please ignore Matty in this stat sheet, it will shoot vile poison out your ears if you mix actual depth and weight into Whiz's frothy emotional decision. but Skelton did as well as the next, if not better. 5-6 in his first game?

John Skelton was the first player drafted from Fordham since 1968. :barf:

Skelton was clearly drafted to be a long term developmental project of the coaching staff.

By no means should he be put right into the line of fire, regardless of whether or not Whisenhunt left the cupboards bare.

Wait a minute! Skelton played in the PATRIOT League. That makes him a perfect replacement for SCUD.

hahaha...having actually worked with the patriot's (14E) in the army before my eleven-bravo days, that's quite funny.

The Cardinals are so bad at QB right now that putting Skelton in there doesn't seem like such a terrible idea just in case he's got "it".

More importantly, there is the possibility that putting in a QB that is that raw would force the coaching staff and players to either elevate their game or crumble. A risky move to be sure but if the QB position is going to be a turnover fest each and every week anyway, getting Skelton in there and developing him with the chance for some upside has some logic to it.

Anderson is pretty much established as a backup at best. Hall, if all goes well and he's better than expected will net the Cardinals Koy Detmer 2.0. I just don't see the purpose in playing either one of those guys.

Skelton may in fact be another John Navarre but at least he has the physical tools. I'm all for a smart QB over a physical QB but Hall isn't providing smarts at the position so I don't think he really deserves that benefit of doubt any more.

Maybe simplifying the offense and relying more on the running game and defense is what this team needs and putting Skelton, who would need to be protected because of his rawness and inexperience, is how the Cardinals could force themselves to focus on those aspects.
