So does that harm Matt Patricia's HC chances?

I know the Eagles are good but the Pats got absolutely shredded, they couldn't stop the Eagles at all.

cant base anything on a single game.
I think we all new the NE D is pretty weak.the SB confirmed it. If Patricia doesn't look like a Buffalo and didn't work in NE he ain't getting an interview for even a coordinator position

How about Last two Super Bowls and the last two games for the Pats? None were really good Defensive games

yet he was already pretty much hired by the lions.

I wouldn't want any patiot coordinators regardless of how he did recently.

That's what happens when you trade CJones, Jamie Collins etc. Got away with it last year but it caught up to them finally.

And you have to give foles and pederson more credit. In back to back games foles absolutely undressed the Vikings (a terrific D) and the pats with two weeks to prepare.

I don’t want to chase foles for the cards, but I don’t think it’s fair to criticize the pats d just bc it was foles.

The defense that Patricia is inheriting in Detroit is much more talented up front and they have some good pieces like Darius Slay and and Quin Glover in the secondary.

Patricia helped the Pats go 13-1 over the Pats' last 14 games prior to the Super Bowl---and while the Pats have good talent in the secondary, after Hightower's injury, this was by far the weakest front seven the Pats gave had in years---yet Patricia worked wonders with them.

The Lions are retaining Jim Bob Cooter as OC---which will aid and abet MP's 1st year transition to HC.

Rookie head coaches are always a crapshoot but I'm glad we didn't seem to have very much interest in Patricia.

Helped clear a typo :shades:

That's what I don't understand. How many ex-Patriots coordinators have to fail to reproduce what BB has done in NE before teams quit trying?

I would rethink it. When Foles has his way with you it's not a good sign.

I don't think this is the narrative anymore; otherwise, Minnesota, the best defense in the NFL, should also hold its head in shame. Rather, we're seeing Nick Foles develop (or redevelop?) into a good quarterback.

The thing about this postseason, which people did not consider, is that the Eagles won playoff games and the Super Bowl because of Nick Foles, not in spite of Nick Foles.

OK and yes it's fair to say the Pats didn't have great personnel but let's look at that 13-1.

I think Patricia did a good job this year the defense was HORRIBLE to start the year, played really well in the middle, and then declined again at the end when they were needed most. If you look at their schedule the last part of the season Atlanta was really the only good offense they faced, I guess the Steelers too and the Steelers put up 24 points and over 400 yards of offense and had the game won until Brady pulled it out.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach but there's just not a ton of evidence that he'll be a good one yet, he was a pretty good DC coaching under the winningest HC in NFL history, who happens to be a defensive genius.

he might be great but I'm wondering if the Lions didn't buy high and will end up selling him low.

Eric Mangini, Romeo Crennel...Weiss, O'Brien, McDaniels...not a lot to get excited about.

That's really been my point all along there's no history of success for coaches under Bill B and in the case of Patricia he's probably the hardest sell because he's a DC working for a guy who is a defensive guy.

I guess the argument is the things Patricia does with stats and computers will translate into being a good coach, and it may be true but my guess is he'll be the latest protege of Bill to fail

The Pat coordinators get hired away by other teams as much for their application of BB's philosophy and understanding of the 'Patriot way' as much as anything else.

The Pats had some mediocre talent on D yet they worked the D-scheme to the SB. Their best CB was on the sid)elines (who knows why) and the game went down to the wire.

More pieces on the Lion D for Patricia than the Pats D. He should do fine if Stafford ever gets over the hump.

One has to discount Patricia's achievements a notch with Brady's scoring machine and Belichick's system in his corner. Lions are in for a world of hurt.
