I'm fine with Palmer next year, but if there's a good QB prospect in round 1 or 2 that we pass on because Palmer "isn't that bad", then we reap what we sow.

He's very good compared to the rest of the trash we've watched the last three years, but he's mediocre compared to the rest of the NFL and if we ever want this team to truly compete, it's the good NFL QBs we need to be as good as or better...not the pathetic Cardinals we've had to watch.
Well put Cheese.

Cards were 13th in Passing yards. Seahawks 26th. Rams 27th and 9ers 30th.

The negative is in the interceptions. 9ers had 8, Seahawks 9 and Rams 11. CP threw 22 which is crazy high, only two QB's had more.

If CP hadn't thrown 4 picks against the Seahawks I would argue he has improved and it shouldn't be an issue next year. I still think he will throw less next year but I wonder if he can get it down to the low teens.

As Cbus stated, CP has had an incredible 2nd half of the season so I expect him to be our starter next year for sure. With a year in this system I do expect the receivers and CP to be on the same page which will cut down on TO's and the passing game will continue to get better and better.

At this point I would extend CP's contract for another 3 to 4 years to help with the CAP in 2014.

Palmer doesn't need to be replaced, but the QBOF needs to be addressed.

This! The Cardinals were totally unprepared when Kurt Warner retired. Eventually Carson will retire. The time to start preparing for that is now. That doesn't necessarily mean drafting a quarterback in the first round, but it does mean drafting one and allowing him to learn B.A.'s offense under Carson and being ready to take the reigns when the time comes.

Ask me again January 25th or some day around there.

Fine with Palmer going into next season, but as for what QB's to look at ?

I have no idea.

Carson needs to stop throwing interceptions. If he was at 25-15 ratio we'd probably be in the playoffs. He's had plenty of time and weapons around him this season.

I forgot there are a bunch of Andrew Lucks coming out and we are in position to take one... give me a break. What the hell why don't we just make a trade for Luck he seems to know Arians system...they couldn't possibly want to much for him.

This isn't a great year for College QB's and anyone selected at 20 or beyond has more holes in his game than Swiss cheese. Palmer is the immediate future.

Personally I think we're good for the next 2-5 years at QB.

It'll be interesting to see how he plays next year knowing the offense, personnel, and after Arians/Moore/Palmer learning each other.

Hopefully an upgraded line might help too.

people were saying the same things when Wilson, Kaepernick and Foles were drafted.

Right now, I have a love/hate feeling towards Palmer. I admire how the guy isn't fazed by interceptions or adversity. But, on the other hand, I don't want him to exhibit that trait almost every friggin' week!

But, where we are going to draft, you cannot make the mistake of drafting a certain position come hell or high water. And, after round one of this draft, there will not be a QB taken who you would just hand the reins to.

Exactly after the pick yesterday the announcer said something about Palmer having the confidence to forget about stuff like that and my first thought was well he's done that about 40 times this year so yeah he probably does.

But at his age he's not going to stop forcing those throws you just gotta limit the number of times he does it by improving the OL and giving him a speed threat and or a real TE to open up the field more.

His 2nd half was really good, 14 TD 8 picks in his last 8 games, 2300 yards, about 8 YPA.

We need to get a guy we can groom for the future but Palmer is definitely a guy we can win with.

Touche. I was at the game so I wasn't in the game thread. Probably missed some complaining there.

I agree that we ride Palmer next year for sure and probably the year after. But I also think it is wise to look for a prospect if the right one falls to us.

Good logical post. The NFL is the elite professional American Football league but not all or most of the NFL QB's are elite. At least not by NFL standards. For this reason I do not beleive that a team can simply plan to find that QB w/in the 2 years set aside.

Moose made a good point yesterday. Palmer seems to get in to the most trouble when he tries to thread the needle over the middle. Lots of tipped passes and just plain horrible throws. He's more successful throwing deep and to the outside. My guess is that the coaching staff is learning his strengths and will game plan better for him next year. IMO getting Cooper back and maybe another line upgrade in addition to continued establishment of the running game will cut his INTs by at least a third next year.

They still need to draft a QB.

Just curious for those saying we need a new starter, because even though the guy drives me nuts with his ints...it can be a lot worse, a hell of a lot worse then his 4000 yards and twenty or so TDs (yes, I know he had over 20 ints but the crap option would have that and no yards and no tds close to him). I think some forget how hard it was for this team to get a decent QB even close to Palmer's level after Warner left. Can we improve the position, yes with a fictitious free agent which does not exist lol. Yes, we should draft a QB if one the staff views as a franchise QB falls to us, but with Arian's complex offense, I find it hard for us to go Andrew Luck with the kid and expect success from our draft spot and starting him. Palmer is still pretty damn good considering the options and again, he has faced two of the top defenses in the league of late. Yes, they are in our division but news flash... Tom Brady is not available or Peyton Manning. Let's get real :)

Carson played great this past year. He came in here and had to lean a new receiver corp, new very complicated system that our new coach ran. HIS TOP RECEIVER WAS HURT. Floyd was just entering his 2nd year. our OL SUCKED. Please don't blame this season on Palmer. I would rather have 3 more Qb's on our staff who can ply like he can with pain than fans like you who take the easy way out and put the blame on the QB. :mulli: :bang:

I agree with those who have stated Carson is a huge upgrade over what they've trotted on the field the last three years. I, for one, don't want him kicked to the curb just because we could use a better QB. He is tough as nails and we can darn sure use him the next year or two until there is someone to take his place. For all appearances, he came to a team that had sucked out loud for years and gave it his best shot.

I highly doubt a QB will be drafted in the 20 spot that will come in to be the savior in the first year. The team will need him. I hope the term Palmover goes away... I didn't like reading it here.

Why are people so eager to throw a young rookie into the mix? I'm all for drafting one and letting him sit for a year, or two, but I don't get this Palmer absolutely needs to be replaced sentiment.

Name 5 QB's that had a better second half of the season than Palmer. Heck, name 3. Manning and Foles are the only 2 that come to mind. Brees didn't. Brady didn't. Ben is possible but he had a couple clunkers. Wilson didn't. Newton is possible but more because of his running ability. Romo, Eli, no. Stafford, Dalton, Rivers, no.

Anyway, you get the picture. The guy was probably the 3rd best QB in the league the 2nd half of the year and we want to kick him to the curb. Palmer's only real bad game was in Seattle, a place where every QB not named Mike Glennon struggled mightily this year.

I have criticized him in recent past, but still think he can be so much better with better OL play in both the running and passing game, and our number 2 WR matures alot and develops more game. I think he especially needs to improve his route running and work with Fitz on catching the holding on to the ball better. He continues at present to make me really miss Q.

Not only that, a lot of times it looks like he's trying to throw the ball away, but over the middle! Can't someone teach him to throw it away outside the playing field, lol. Unless, of course, he thinks he has an outlet down the middle (and there's never one there).
