So obviously this guy has had a terrible 2 month span here and I think alot of teams are going to be very wary of "wasting" a pick on him. Its obvious he has some major immaturity issues.

BUT

He is a Top 5 talent and harnessed his ability under a guy like Saban. Who on this board would risk that late pick and take a flyer on him. It was obvious that Alabama was a different team whne he played.

So IF he fell - would you want the Cards to draft him at #31??

I doubt he free falls to 31st.. That would just be ridiculous.

He was dominant in the SEC. Few people are, especially in the OL. I'll take him in at 31st in a heartbeat

I think he's worth a shot at 31. He could go 1 of 2 ways...pout because he is immature and lack any motivation other than to keep asking "why me" or grow from the experience and prove to everyone that he is a great player

That said I doubt he makes it to #31

Depends on where he falls...If he falls all the way to the 3rd round I would take him. Tackle isn't that much of a need and if we do pick a LT it would be in the later rounds because he would basically sit behind Gandy for the season or if he gets injured.

Would not touch him in any round. Too many red flags. Seriously, I'm wondering if the kid has psych/mental issues.

As Cowheard said: if he busts on the team that drafts him, that's a you problem. The warning signs are there.

That said, a team with a history of turning problem players into team players like the Patriots or the Bengals (haha, that's just a joke) would score big if they can whip his attitude into shape.

I don't think the Cardinals are a team that can do that, yet.

Unless he pulls a Rae Carruth he ain't falling that far...

Dockett had character issues coming out and he seemed to turn out OK in Arizona.

Nobody has stated any reasons on why he left though.

what if he had a death in the family or something and he just didnt want to talk about it?

Andre Smith = automatic improvement in the running game. I don't care what you need in the draft, if you have any inkling Smith could overcome his personal deficiencies, you take him if he's there at 31. It's the Randy Moss principle.

If Green were still here, Smith would be at the top of his leaderboard. Guaranteed.

If he falls to us we sprint to the podium to take him. Does he have some red flags? Yes. But they aren't HUGE red flags.

First, no chance whatsoever he falls to us. He is the BEST lineman in the draft and better than Jake Long or Joe Thomas were. If he fell to us we would never pass on him.

Did somebody say a very highly rated prospect with a bunch of talent, but is an underachiever dropping his stock?

I wouldn't be suprised if he fell to the 2nd round. Him just starting working out two weeks before the combine + being suspended for the Sugar Bowl + leaving the combine without telling anyone will defently make teams give him a second look.

Unless he rolls out of bed and ends up having a unbelievable pro day. Like doing 40 reps or something. I think he really hurt himself with his actions at the combine because it just confirmed his work ethic issues with his laziness.

I havent heard that Smith had a questionable motor though.

That was the biggest red flag with Branch

Agree 100%. Remember Dimitrius Underwood - played at Michigan State University and was drafted by the Vikings 29th in the 1999 Draft. Underwood had missed most of his senior year, and his coaches at Michigan State warned NFL scouts that he wasn't mentally stable enough to play in the NFL.

After being drafted, he signed a five year, $5.3 million contract in August 1, 1999 but walked out of training camp the next day and never returned. Where there is smoke there is fire.

He also showed up to the combine grossly overweight and refused to workout before bolting.

yeah, he's no underachiever. he comes to play. something's just odd with his offseason behavior. that said, with the 31st pick you take him.

I wouldn't be so sure. The agent thing (and more importantly the coach feeling the need to suspend them for the biggest game) + not getting in shape for the biggest interview of his life + not having the intelligence to tell anyone he is leaving + a lot of quality OL in the draft could lead to a precipitous drop.

I could easily see him falling. If Randy Moss could fall to the 20's anyone can.

The Cardinals tried this once already recently with a top 5 talent that slid come draft day. this team does not need another Alan Branch, especially on the O line.
