So why aren't we looking at big men?

What's with Kerr saying that we don't need another big man? Grant Hill is a nice player, but after fifteen games at our pace his legs will have to be amputated. If we're going anywhere, we need a defense/rebounding big guy to take pressure off Amare. This small ball business is killing us. At this rate, we'll have a small forward (Marion) at the four, with an againg vet in Kurt Thomas as our only back up big guy. Oh, I almost forgot Sean Marks :barf:. This team would be much better off with P.J. Brown than with Grant Hill.

Well I was hoping that we could offer him a little more cheddar. Ely and Singleton probably would, although I'm not sure how much they'd help (at least they'd be better than Marks). The best way would probably be through a trade (Camby, Sheed, Foster, and Haslem just to name a few). No matter how we acquire it, I think it's clear that this team needs an interior defensive presence.

Joe Smith is looking for an MLE deal, and probably someone will give it to him. He's a solid player who has fit in well everywhere he's been.

I think (and hope) we're going to play like D'Antoni likes to, w/ Marion as a full-time 4. After Joe Johnson left, the best pure 3 we've had is James Jones, and he obviously wasn't anything close to a replacement. Signing Grant Hill might mean we could play like we did in '04/'05, with ball handlers and shooters from pg to sf, and Marion and Amare running pf's and centers off the court.

Because everyone is greatly overvaluing Grant Hill. We're acting as if he's going to be the savior of the franchise. I really don't think so.

I mean no offense to Sean Marks but I would rather see a practice player who might be able to contribute in a real game, perhaps like Ely.

I was looking at the SA roster the other day (very briefly because it opened wounds) and virtually every player on their roster was capable of contributing in a real game if necessary. Such was not the case with the Phoenix roster.

And yes, I know Sean Marks used to play for SA.

The problem with that is we have won't have an interior defensive presence. Kurt will probably only be good for 25 minutes a game, and even then he isn't a big shot blocker/lane clogger who can prevent guard penetration. While Marion's most natural position might be the three, the only four that he can really body up on for an entire game is Dirk.

I think it's actually because if Hill decides to go elsewhere, the best we can hope for is another Jourmaine Jones or Sean Marks. Or can you think of another quality free agent other than Hill who is willing to take the minimum, because the Suns made it clear that they will only sign one player and only for the minimum.

Take the minimum while being sure he'd never see a single minute of floor time under DA? Which FA of any quality would be that stupid?

Maybe somebody who has been playing in Europe but wants to play in the NBA again... somebody perhaps like a Fizer or a Baxter. Or maybe the Suns sign some FA from the summer league who looks like he might be able to play. Perhaps an undersized PG. Or maybe the Suns give Portland their first round draft pick next season for somebody they do not have room to keep on their roster. Just totally guessing.

I sure wish the Suns could somehow trade Banks for TT. IMO the Suns were asleep at the wheel the last couple of years when filling out their roster with players like Pike and Burke. I do not see the Suns as an improved team right now unless the Suns are counting on rookies.

IMO, the Suns need to make a trade. I know they were very close to a Championship this past season but I like room for a margin of error.

Basicly, people with not many other options in NBA. Don't we see that DA has been ruining our longtime esatablished reputation as a good FA destination singlehandedly with his stubbornness not to play more than 7 men in a game?

For margine of error, we gotta use our bench and give the guys there some confidence. Then we might want to trade one big contract for 2-3 smaller ones, like Marion-Banks-Pike for Miller-Swift-Stoudamire and a future pick?

Didn't we have a similar discussion a year ago? The Suns' shortage of big men is chronic.

I guess right now unless the right trade falls to the Suns they just sit back and let KT and Marion expire. The Suns don't even seem to know how to use draft picks to sweeten a trade anymore. They just sell their first round picks.

WHY, WHY, WHY... didn't the Suns pick Sergio last year. I think almost everyone on this board liked him and then there would be no Banks contract to worry about.

Probably. :D

Then look at the SA roster and they are always loaded with big men.

No the NBA shortage of big men is chronic. It's not just the Suns that are looking for real big men. The truth is the chances of you finding someone at another position who can contribute are much greater then finding a big man who can. So I would rather have someone who can contribute then add some big man who never will.

So I'm take some of these smaller guys who can play. The Suns need depth that can get off the bench.
