Soap Box 3 of 3: What the Defense needs to do to win me over

Only 9 ints so far in 14 games (0.6 per game) with a projection of 10 for the season... way too low. We had 17 last year with a poor defense.

BTW, the last pick the defense had was against 49ers Nov 20 loss. It's been four games since then without a pick. Hope that changes this Sat...

Schofield is becoming more of a complete player & he needs to become one if Haggans retires, and if Bradley can catch up mentally to what he needs to do, we [gasp] might be in good shape with our 1st team linebacking core. Obviously depth will be an issue.

Did you see some of the defensive formations the Cards used Sunday? They had Acho lined up in the middle, then on the left side with Bradley on the right, and Calais Campbell lined up like a 4-3 Defensive End in addition to their base 3-4 and 2-4. Good stuff. Hard for a team to game plan for a player when they don't know where he'll be.

First, they MUST start forcing more turnovers. INTs especially. More picks, more fumbles. Sacks are looking good, but it seems like we don't jump routes when it is there.

This style of defense, while aggressive, is actually designed to keep the offense from converting on 3rd down, and to prevent big plays.

It is the DB's primary function to not allow the big play, i.e. - do not allow a receiver behind you. The style of play doesn't lend itself to a lot of INT's (see Pittsburgh, except for Palamalu; and as was already stated if A-dub could catch, he would have at least three more).
