I would put a rule to extend the senior bowl to freshmsan and junior, all the prospects who has declared for the draft and deny the combine event if they dont partecipate at senior bowl(maybe changing the name event)

Incentive to stay in school? Very few are not in need of seasoning.

Btw Baker the touchdown maker check in at 6’ 3/8” with hand size of 9 1/2

So the doubters of his size should eat some Philly Iggle bird with some cheese wiz on it lol :p
Good for him. Many thought he would be under 6'. Plus decent hand size for his height as well.

I noticed all teams drafting in front of us that need a QB play in cold weather. Mayfield certainly can play in any weather imo but there will be concerns as always. Rosen, Darnold and Allen will go ahead of him. If Mayfield falls out of the top 10 Keim better don't screw it up! Otherwise Mayfield and Lamar Jackson will got at 13 and 14 right before we are on the clock. 2017 draft all over again - no thanks!

I noticed that quite a few posters here are hoping for Mayfield. I don't watch enough college football to have an opinion, but from what i have watched and read, i'd love for the Cardinals to get him. He almost seems like the #1 choice of a large percentage of posters.

I'm curious as to whether he's people's #1 choice overall, or the top choice from among the guys who the Cardinals would have a reasonable chance at getting. If we had the #1 pick, would he still be the choice? I feel as though i've read more posts dissing Darnold, Rudolph, and Allen than ones wishing the Cardinals had a shot at them.

If Mayfield really is the best prospect, what makes anyone think other teams don't see it the same way?! Veer's post is the first one i've seen with any reasoning for why Mayfield might be the best choice for the Cardinals, yet still not be one of the top three QBs taken by other teams. And it's an interesting point, but i don't know how much weight the weather really carries, especially given that Mayfield is considered to have a strong arm.

for me the thing is risk/return.

IMO Sam Darnold is hands down the best QB choice in this draft and I would love to have him... but Sam Darnold is very much Carson Palmer, who was also a #1 pick..

The biggest knock on Mayfield is his size and to some degree a bit of immaturity. Due to size you risk injury or ineffectiveness and due to immaturity you risk total Leaf/Manziel level meltdown. Lots of risk.

But the possible rewards with Mayfield are off the charts... your talking about drew Brees/Brett Favre/John Elway type of possibilities...reality may fall somewhere in between.

Mayfield has a chip on his shoulder, he had to transfer out of TT when he lost his starting job to Davis Webb due to injury.

The immaturity issues dont bother me so much. I see a kid who is a very fiery competitor who has been told his entire life that he is too small and cant do it, and his response was " F%$# you, watch me"

any of his "off field" issues can be chalked up to "college kid"

he may not amount to much but IMO if there is a HoF level QB in this draft it is this guy, his intangibles are just off the charts.

also, Darnold will provide solid vanilla QB play whereas Baker will provide some electricity on the field... the difference between watching Brady stand tall and throw strikes Vs watching Wilson or Brees duck a sack, spin to the left, run to the flat, set up, and hurl the ball forty yards downfield to a wide open simmie cobbs streaking to the endzone
both have their strengths... if the redbirds had earned the #1 overall I would take Sam Darnold every day
but if we are going to gamble and trade up?? Gamble on greatness.

Denver is all over Mayfield. The Cards would have to move in front of them, that means trading with Indy! That would be a very expensive move to make.

“Everybody wants to portray the bad-boy, the Johnny Manziel stuff,” Mayfield said. “But no, I love the game of football. There’s no doubt about that. [I’m] an emotional player. I’ll do anything that it takes to win. I love being around my teammates, and I love leading and having responsibility.”

i always try to not let the media change my view of a college player.. it's not working for baker. really starting to like what i'm hearing about him.

If they don't land Cousins...which I believe they will

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/01/24/joe-thomas-if-it-were-up-to-me-id-sign-kirk-cousins/

this article has Joe Thomas advocating for the Browns to sign Cousins. I have brought that up before,... but what is most interesting is his comment about Alex Smith... does he know something we dont? Or is he just putting 2 and 2 together in regards to their GM?

either way, Thomas does not look like fan of the Browns drafting a QB this year...and he is contemplating retirement... its possible that drafting a rookie QB could cost cleveland their franchise left tackle.
or they can sign Cousins then draft a RB and a new LT

As far as ILB's are concerned, wouldn't it depend on whether we're a 3-4 or 4-3? Or is an LB an LB?
generally speaking a 4-3 is going to employ bigger LB's with smaller DE's... but quickness, instincts, and the ability to deliver a hit is most important
our defense has lots of hybrid type players so while we dont really have a traditional 4-3 MLB...we can get by for a season or two with what we have. for MLB you want a guy who can diagnose the play and shed blocks... getting swallowed up by an olineman is very bad...a guy like Deone Bucannon is an anti-MLB...lol

My best contact says misinformation. Truth is hard to find and I’m just giving you the info I trust most. Still all this could change with a bad Pro Day or an incident.
Reports are that Elway requested his staff Coach Mayfield’s North team & Baker requested being coached by Elway’s team lol

I’ve never wanted the Cards to draft a QB more in many years. Too bad Keim & Wilks aren’t there.

Me too! Going from Sooner Red to Cardinal Red would be very fitting! Mayfield's got a lot of moxie. You can't coach that. Ain't gonna happen though. Denver sounds determined to get him. Hope I'm wrong about that though.

I’m still not sure that’s this case!

Imo I just can’t see Elway passing on a basic clone of himself in Allen, in size, arm talent & movement in the pocket even though he’s not as accurate. If he’s even available at that pick!!! Think about it.

It may be a smokescreen or maybe not. It’s hard to believe that Elway is showing he’s holding 2 aces in his hand this early in the process. We shall see

I'm actually a fan of BM's fire and competitiveness, but I just don't see the upside. You mention Elway and Favre. What tools does Baker posses that leads you to believe he has this sort of upside? I see a QB that is barely 6 foot, low release point with good, but not great arm strength. AKA Russell Wilson with less arm strength and athletic ability. Doesn't scream high upside to me. More like Doug Flutie or better version of Tyrod Taylor

I think you’re selling his arm short! He’s got a very good arm, go watch the Texas game from this year. 65 yard bomb on a rope! He doesn’t have Allen’s arm, but BM has got plenty of arm!

His anticipation on his throws & ball location is as good or better than anyone in this class! That’s why his completion % is so high. Often he throws guys open. He sets up quickly in the pocket & has a quick release. When his runs an RPO it’s like stealing because it comes out so fast. Oh & btw he reads coverages as well.

I promise you if he’s 6’4” most of his critics would be silent & he would probably be the top pick.
